This cd is perfect for kids! I grew up listening to this tape and at 22 I still know all the words by heart! Sing Song Kitty was my favorite song.
When I have kids, they'll be listening to this cd!

I'm a pretty big Merle Haggard fan (I got into him by purchasing the 5 new compilations of 10 of his early albums), and before I bought this highly-rated compilation I wondered how such a popular, apparently great album could be so cheap ($3?!?!). Now, after owning it and listening to it, I have a theory--I think Capitol produced a boatload of a low-quality master, realized their mistake too late, and reduced the price to get rid of their stock. I could be wrong--the problems could be inherent in the original tapes, but either way, this release suffers from some serious sound quality issues. A subtle but maddening crackly, buzzy recurring distortion pervades a lot of the album, in the background and accompanying vocals and instruments alike. It's not constant, but it happens enough to drive ... Read More

I am so glad to have this in my collection. It is worth owning just for the original performance of "Lovesick Blues" at the Opry, the moment that catapulted the King of Country into the stratosphere and elicited six encores at the time. Some of the comedy is corny for today but it is still a great time capsule of what the Grand Ole Opry was like for listeners all across the country before the birth of rock 'n roll. This is a must have for any fan of Hank Williams.

5.At the Golden Nugget by: Hank Thompson

We just lost Hank recently and this if by far his best album. I grew up listening to Western Swing, with my dad being a professional steel player here in Nashville, I really didn't have much of a choice. This live album has it all - great songs, and one of the best-if not the best swing band to ever grace a stage. After all, with Bobby Garrett on steel and the Merle Travis playing, it would be difficult to record a bad record.

If you are fan of Western Swing you will not be disapointed with this album and unlike my old vinyl record (I wore it out practicing my drums to it)this Amazon mp3 sounds very good.

Just so you know, folks, there was one advantage to the double-album vinyl release (Vanguard VSD - 9/10, 1970) and that's the inclusion of Hank Snow's song "Movin' On" between "The Cloud's Are Gwine Roll Away" and the instrumental "Windy & Warm"; it was presumably removed because of the length of the album when transferred to the 80-minute CD limit. Admittedly, you don't miss much but those of you with turntables might want to keep an eye out for this one in the used record stores that are rapidly disappearing from the American landscape. For those without turntables, give thanks that this classic recording is available on CD because it's a true American treasure.

My wife and I go to a series of house concerts put on by Dark-Thirty Productions of Lakeside, California. The acts are quite excellent in quality, but are still lesser known and willing to give concerts before 50 to 120 people in a small venue. I was told, when I first started to attend, that one of the best acts to catch was The Hot Club of Cowtown. Well, I've now attended three Hot Club concerts and wouldn't miss the chance to attend more. What a terrific musical entourage!

The Hot Club consists of Whit on guitar, Jake on stand-up bass and Elana on violin. All serve as vocalists with Whit and Elana carrying the greatest workload. Their music is generally billed as "Western Swing" or "Hot Jazz." It's somewhat old-fashioned sounding and some of the songs go way, way back. However, the Hot Club can turn this music ... Read More

If you've ever seen Dwight live he puts on a fantastic show. I rarely like live albums, but I do this one. Well worth the money and adding to your collection. Some great cuts on a wide variety of songs, that showcase Dwight's talent.
