Vince Guaraldi was a true jazz master and did his best work writing for the Charlie Brown specials. Every track on this CD is worth listening to musically as well as for the nostalgia. One of the few commercial Christmas albums that does a good job reminding us why there is a Christmas.

Bought this CD as USED but it looks and sounds as good as new. This music is haunting, beautiful, or charming...depending on the specific tune. This is really pre-country / bluegrass classical folk stuff. You will either understand its origins and love it, or think it is stupid.

Althought the OBC is the definitive recording of this musical, and although the 1999 T.V. production with Victor Garber and Audra Macdonald is a far better adaptation of the show, this 1982 soundtrack is a delight in its own right. The main reason to buy this album is because of the cast: Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Anne Reinking, Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, and Aileen Quinn as the title character. A few songs in the film were actually better on screen than on stage, "It's the Hard-Knock Life" and "I Don't Need Anything But You" being chief among them. The songs added specifically for the film are also a delight, the comic duet between Burnett and Finney, "Sign" being my favorite. I love the central theme of this soundtrack. Depending on the arrangement, it can be romantic, sad, patriotic, and thrilling. For anyone learning to score films, this one offers a great lesson on arrangements. Another good film scorer is Howard Shore. His themes for Lord of the Rings trilogy are also fantastically arranged for different moods.

I'm a huge fan of the Home Alone movie, and have watched it every holiday for the last decade and a half. It's like a family tradition. Having said that, you can understand how listening to the soundtrack allows the movie to play inside my head. Every theme is here in its complete form. None of the tracks feel truncated or compacted. At $7 bucks, this is a steal for fans of the movie. If you haven't seen the movie (you really ought to!) you'll still enjoy one of Williams' few playful-but-dramatic scores out there.

I happened upon the movie on cable and was impressed with how accurate it was to the time and culture. But what caught me was the music! How can you go wrong with the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Todd Rundgren, Yes, Rod Stewart, The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Cat Stevens to mention a few. This soundtrack produced by Danny Bramson and Cameron Crowe really captures this moment in time and brings back a flood of memories. I don't think anyone who lived this would be disappointed.
