I suppose the first thing to say is that yes, I'm a pretty big ABBA fan - I grew up listening to them, and know at least the songs from their GOLD album word for word. And no, this album isn't ABBA, but it's still a lot of fun. The real singing talent in the Mamma Mia! cast belongs to Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski, and Meryl Streep. Amanda Seyfried does an excellent job on songs like "I Have A Dream" and "Honey, Honey" (as well as "The Name of the Game," though it was cut from the film), though I felt her version of "Thank You For the Music" from the end credits of the film is a bit bare without the harmony and lush music of the ABBA version. Christine Baranski sizzles on "Does Your Mother Know," and provides nice harmony with Meryl Streep and Julie Walters ... Read More

Soundtrack is even better than the movie. My girls love the songs and listen to this one everyday and now do all the dance moves like the movie! Lots of fun for summer.

I saw the musical while it was in Boston...I loved all of Abba's music in the story-line...My daughter purchased it for me, however I wore it out playing it... I just love listening to all of the great songs from the play... I truly wanted this since it is from the Musical...One of my favs for sure...

James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer, already two of my favorite score composers, have laid music on the table that parallels the film in the deep and the dark, the breathtaking and the jaw-droppingness. Each composer brings their own unique styles to create a score with as much depth as I have ever heard. The CDs opening track, 'Why So Serious?' begins with strange, screeching strings that slowly rise. The rest of the song is a mixture of orchestral genius and strange noises (ticking...) that absolutely capture the dark intrigue of the Joker. My other favorite tracks are 'Harvey Two Face,' which features a tune familiar to those who know the first score. I saw "Wicked" at the Pantages in Los Angeles yesterday and it was marvelous. I couldn't help comparing the leads to this CD which I have owned and played relentlessly since I first saw "Wicked" in 2006. The L.A. stars acquitted themselves quite well. And proof that synchronicity lives in The Emerald City, Elphaba the green witch was played brilliantly by a Cali belter by the name of Teal Wicks. Honorable mentions go to "No Good Deeds" "Defying Gravity" "As Long as You're Mine" and "For Good". My very favorite (this month anyway) "Thank Goodness" got a rather tepid response from the matinee audience though Erin Mackey as Glinda hit the high notes with gusto and on other tunes like "Popular" she matched the ditzy, surgary acting chops of Kristin Chenonweth. This is one of the best CD I have bought in a long time. Pretty much all songs are great (I don't particularly care for a couple of them...). I must say though, if you watch the movie before you listen to the CD, I think you will enjoy the songs even more...

I didn't want the show to end when I saw it. And now, with the disc it doesn't have to. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this faithful reproduction of the music and the messages it contains.

I have to disagree with all of the 5-star reviews out there. This is not a fantastic score. It cannot stand on its own outside of the movie. It sets the mood, it sets the pace, but there is hardly anything listenable in it by itself. Tones, beats, but hardly anything palletable without the onscreen action. I loved the movie. I loved the sound of the movie, but this score will fade after the basic theme of Batman is played. It's boring and shapeless. One star.

This CD is amazing...the movie is awesome, it is an amazing story and the soundtrack really captures the essence of the story. Having listened to the CD so many times, now I want to see the movie again to see where the songs fit in. While the music can certainly stand on it's own, seeing the movie really increases its relevance. Totally recommend....hands down.
