This 3 CD set features 54 songs recorded for "Mother's Best" radio shows in 1951. A significant number of demo and live recordings by Williams have been available for years but with those recordings sound quality is often marginal. 2 things stand out on this new 3 Time Life CD set: the sound quality is excellent and Williams' singing is as strong as ever (clearly he wasn't in the midst of one of his binges during the period that most or all of these sides were drawn from). This is an amazing set. I have been listening to the SACD import version (which everyone except amazon seems to know has already been released) which brings a clarity and fidelity to these recordings like nothing before it! It is hard to believe this music is closing in on 40 years old, and in 5.1 surround sounds as fresh as if it had been recorded yesterday. Some of the mixing choices are different than I remember on the orginals (some better, some not), however, I am also hearing new sounds that were previously obscured within the mix. Highly recommended!

i bought mine and the "october" cd had both of the same disc's in the package, had to return it to amazon.com hopefully the replacement will be correct.great package if everything was right in it.

For the past few years, soundtracks to well known motion pictures like Star Wars, Superman, and The Lord of the Rings have been given the royal treatment: boxed sets with every minute of music included and ordered according to the movie (which in the case of Superman and Empire Strikes Back even included some cues that were never in the film). We've waited a long time for the Indiana Jones films to get their long overdue "completist" makeover, and with Indiana Jones: The Soundtrack Collection, we come as close as we've ever gotten. My husband and I are huge fans of TSO. We go to their concert every year here in Atlanta. When you're in a concert setting, sometimes you can't quite hear all the words. (Granted: all the lighting and fireworks and snow are a little distracting! LOL!) However, when you listen to the CD, and can hear the words, the songs are even more powerful. Our favorite singer is Tommy who does "The Ornament". He's been the singer on our tour every year except for this one and I am always moved by him. TSO has resurfaced in the past few years as "the" group to listen to. (I remember when - for Christmas - it was Mannheim Steamroller.) Whether in person at a concert or in the privacy of your car or home, the music is always good.

My parents were teenagers/young adults in Philadelphia during the 60's and early 70's. I grew up with my parents playing this music. It was just part of our environment. My brother and I were babies singing along with this awesome music. I'm in my early 40s now and heard an NPR Fresh Air interview with Gamble and Huff yesterday. Those guys are just so talented. AWHHHHHHHHH, hearing that music again brought me such joy. Learning about the genius of Gamble and Huff and all of the songs that they've written and produced, just made me profoundly proud of them and the city of Philadelphia; a place I left in the 80's. My mom still lives in the City, so there will always be a connection for me. I cannot wait to see her face when I present her with the gift of this compilation for Christmas. I received this CD collection as a gift. Not knowing Roy all that well I was rather concerned about liking his music. Well let me tell you going forward he will be one of my favorite singers.

Geat Music if you are a CCR Fan and if you aren't, You will be by the time you finish listening. CCR had a Very distint sound and some great music came out of that sound. Other reviewers have done a much better job of reviewing this CD set, So there's no need to repeat what's already been said. It's a Great collection that can't be beat.

This is what introduced me to Sufjan (and I have never been the same!). My mother, who is in her mid 50s, loves this set. I secretly look forward to Thanksgiving because I can put the album in my cd player for the next couple of months...and we play it while we're taking our tree down so we can enjoy it one last time before putting Christmas stuff up. It has many traditional Christmas songs, as well as some he has written, and some stellar renditions of old hymns that will be familiar to many. This has to be the best Christmas album ever.
