After listening to a representative sample, I would argue this set is a bargain at 3 times the price: Yes the recordings are much as Bach would have wanted them performed. Its as if you could enter a time capsule and arrive at the Thomaskirche just in time for the Sunday Mass. Most of the comments below about the sound or performance quality of this collection are due to this and not to production or recording standards which are high throughout. The 17 discs of organ works alone are more than worth the price of admission. As a whole they could possibly be the best collection available today at any price. I can understand the criticism and praise from the reviewers on this interpretation. Once again, it's a matter of taste and ultimately liking the balance between technical skill and expression. Sometimes the tempi can alter the course of appreciation as well, and I think that's more the case here. To my ear, this is a very solid and beautiful rendition. Perlman plays with a very distinct crispness and Zukerman contributes handsomely on this recording. The slow movement of the double violin concerto has almost a pulse to it which is unique but I don't find it distracting or taking away from the movement at all. All the pieces are played beautifully with feeling and mastery of technique. I have several versions of these pieces and this is the one I come back to most often.

I am not an expert on classical music. Having said this, I can tell anyone who loves to listen to simply beautiful music, you cannot go wrong with this CD. It is heavenly. It is certainly aptly titled. One can easily day dream, work, read, dine, or make love whilst listening to this music.

This the worst CD I've ever had...terrible doesn't begin to describe it. There was nothing even remotely enjoyable..soothing to the ear would NOT be a description that I would give it.
