even though it's been 40 years since it was released, Switched on Bach by Wendy (formerly Walter) Carlos is one of the best musical performances ever recorded. Anyone even remotely into classical music would enjoy this CD. I had this as a kid (on a record - ask your parents what those were) and it disappeared in all the moves. I was SO glad to find it again. Chris

Prayer: A Windham Hill Collection (CD) by Michael Manring If you're a high-strung person like me, I recommend this beautiful, gentle, instrumental music that is both soothing and emotionally engaging, yet never maudlin. It has been a "God-send" while driving in heavy morning rush-hour traffic. Despite all the aggravations caused by socially-challenged drivers who don't know how to share the road, I find that I still arrive at work calm and centered thanks to the beneficial effects of this masterful Windham Hill CD. After weeks of listening to it every single morning, it's still not boring. I strongly recommend it for Type A personalities!

I remember back in the late sixties the original LP of "Switched on Bach" started showing up in record stores and causing quite a storm. Of course, being the proper musical snob and "purist" I was, I discounted them as being nothing better sounding than "tuned rubber bands". The trouble was, it was being played everywhere. You couldn't avoid it. And I was forced to listen. Little by little, I must admit, I was won over. First of all, the interpretations really aren't half bad. And that sound! This is a pleasant CD and would be a worthy addition to your collection. I also bought Thursday Afternoon, and think that it is even better. Sometimes this CD is just the right thing. Recommended.

"Snowflakes Are Dancing" is the 1974 debut album from pioneering Japanese synthesist Isao Tomita. Like Wendy Carlos before him, Tomita was highly successful in re-creating Classical music on synthesizers and was way ahead of his time when his early albums were first released. "Snowflakes Are Dancing" exclusively features the music of French composer Claude Debussy decorated in Tomita's own original arrangements and is still a real treat to listen to over 30 years later. Standout tracks include the title track, "The Engulfed Cathedral", "Passepied", "Golliwog's Cakewalk" and of course, the versions of "Clair De Lune" and the first "Arabesque" which are worth the price of the CD alone. I defer to the excellent reviews submitted by others as to the the nature and composition. I only want to add that this is NOT "Spoken Word", except for Frank's intro, and also that it is fantastic music that will echo for all time.

i'm a huge eno fan, and love his stuff. this record, however, is unbelievable! there are distinct atmospheres to each side that might be lost playing via cd. side one...wow. from the first time i heard the opening of "no one receiving," i was hooked. the harmony vocals are really different than what other artists were working with, and the large array of musicians all brought their "A" game. "king's lead hat?" genius.

I was disappointed that Inspiration skips. I thought it was my copy, but i see others have skipped copies too. I went on Amazon.com to see if I could download another MP3 copy. Too bad a good copy is not available for MP3 download for $.99. You should not have to buy an entire album for those of us who lost $$$ and only have a 1/2 of a CD. Hint Hint..It's only good Karma to make it right. Dr. Thompson, "get creative" and put a good MP3 copy on Amazon.com for MP3 download!

This CD set is a much needed collection for all musicians or just audio freaks with an ear for electronic music. The great thing about this set is the DVD that comes with it. If you are into pioneers of electronic music and visuals/video art, then this CD is a must for you. If you listen to electronic pioneers like Morton Subotnic to Joy Electric and visual pioneers like Yoichiro Kawaguchi to Silverlage then Don't delay. Add it to your collection.

doesn't even come close to the heights set by no pussyfooting and evening star. at best, wispy ambient music for video games or sci-fi tv shows.
