I have been an avid fan of Coldplay from the start and I must say that have still yet to disappoint. Usually my favorite parts of their songs are the strong instumental parts with no lyrics. You just flow with the music. This album is totally different from all their others, it starts out with Life in Technicolor, a completely instrumental track. It starts the album off great. While there aren't a lot of songs a lot of the songs have two sets of the same song, but still completely different. Of course, the old Coldplay is still there with Viva la Vida and Violent Hill. IF you've ever enjoyed Coldplay, believe me this album will not disappoint.

I am entirely grateful to finally find a relaxing modern album. Thank you for this introspective and sublime music--let this set a precedent for a decaying recording industry that focuses too much on image and not enough on quality or substance in art. Art should touch human beings on a much deeper, often inexplicable, yet intuitive level.

I have loved Mr.Petty and his fine band since 1977. Just an amazing performer who has timeless songs. Not just the hits, the B sides are tremendous. Anything thats rock n roll, restless, spike, on and on and on, this band blows Springsteen and that overhyped Northern bunch away.

That said, for me the music stopped around 1994. Stan left because of the Ballads that were increasingly becoming the new music. Sure we would have an occasional hard rocking sound primarily driven by a wonderful riff by THE best lead guitar on the planet. Tom would have to write a lyrics to match. like Running down a dream. But they became far and between. Remember when you would buy Hard promises, your gonna get it, Torpedos, and EVERY single song was a sing along rocking masterpiece?

Can a female singer sound black and white at the same time? The same question was asked in 1983, when Madonna appeared on the scene. Apparently that question can signal universality of appeal and longevity of career. It did for Madonna, and I think it could for Duffy, one of the latest of a recent astonishing parade of girl singers from the British Isles who sound like Billie Holiday with modern muscle.

Whereas Billie was generally portrayed as a victim, these new singers reveal the conflict between being someone's "lover" and their own "person". In "Rockferry", Duffy sounds like the ghost of a 60's singer who has risen up in 2008 to find that she feels perfectly at home. In this track we first hear her unique voice and style, girlishly innocent but carrying the weight of a woman's ... Read More

This album is different from any other DCFC album, but it still deserves five stars. I agree with another reviewer that the songs on the album do not sound repetative. Each song has a unique sound, but somehow the album works as complete work of art. The songs are different from each other, but they also compliment each other, which results in a nice transition between tracks. I really respect the band for releasing I Will Possess Your Heart as the first single. That was a bold move. I love this band.

I've been loving listening to Dreaming Wide Awake for a few years, and this new album reaches far beyond that. The Orchard exhibits a depth and richness, both musically and lyrically, that makes it undeniably my favorite album to come out in a long, long time. I look forward to hearing what Ms. Wright's future work, and her collaborations with the gifted songwriter Toshi Reagon and producer Craig Street, will gift to us!

I am not going to tell you that "Highly Suspicious"" is a Prince knockoff or this album was too experimental or not experimental enough. But I will ask you to put the CD in, listen from first note to last note, and tell ne that the CD did not take you on an imaginaty journey through different scenic pastures. My opinion is that this CD made my mind travel as would "Wish You Were Here" or "A Farewell to Kings" To me, the whole is better than the sum of its parts. Enjoy

this album just shows how much a band can change direction while keeping their own style. i think that some fans might be upset that these songs are less like what they've heard before from sigur ros, but change can clearly be a good thing. if you need evidence of how the band has changed their approach, see the last song. it's in english and you can even kind of understand some of it.
every song here is fantastic anyway, so even if you like the "old" sigur ros and are worried about the new, you should give this album a chance.

I admit the idea seemed kind of silly: matching a rock God with a folk Goddess -- each amazing in their own way but, together? I just wasn't sure.
But good God almighty, there's some serious magic at work here.
Haunting, melancholy, harmonious -- hard to describe but there's something divine in the notes. The pairing is odd but works in a way that's really quite amazing. And seeing them live -- whoa!
If you like deep, moody music (or either of these two musical giants on their own) you must give this album a try. Granted, it's not Zep and it's not Union Station bluegrass -- but that's the point. Together they create something different, a mood... a feeling... an emotion. It's grand. Hurray for the odd pairings! First Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler and now this... Raising Sand? No... Raising the bar! ... Read More
