After listening to a representative sample, I would argue this set is a bargain at 3 times the price: Yes the recordings are much as Bach would have wanted them performed. Its as if you could enter a time capsule and arrive at the Thomaskirche just in time for the Sunday Mass. Most of the comments below about the sound or performance quality of this collection are due to this and not to production or recording standards which are high throughout. The 17 discs of organ works alone are more than worth the price of admission. As a whole they could possibly be the best collection available today at any price. even though it's been 40 years since it was released, Switched on Bach by Wendy (formerly Walter) Carlos is one of the best musical performances ever recorded. Anyone even remotely into classical music would enjoy this CD. I had this as a kid (on a record - ask your parents what those were) and it disappeared in all the moves. I was SO glad to find it again. Chris

This is a fabulous opportunity to own so much genius music and such a low cost. You will have a great library of Mozart to refer to. Fabulous for a beginning collector and again, so affordable!

As usual, Anonymous 4 has researched (usually one year) and compiled an album of music that flows as if the pieces were written to be performed together. The musicality and the pitch is impeccable. Those who gave few stars to this recording and performance are commenting with regard to personal preference rather than truly rating this wonderful performance. These women research, arrange and perform historic pieces that present programs in a set time period. Lovely, just lovely. As a musician, I find no fault with this compilation.

This CD mostly delivered what was expected of it. The only critique I have is that some of the tempos could have been cleaner, and that it should be cross-referenced by the other composers besides J. S. Bach.

Compré este producto en noviembre 23 de 2007 y me deleité escuchando estos 84 CD's. La calidad de las grabaciones es muy buena. Como tarjeta de presentación basta mencionar los nombres de Arthur Grumiaux y Kurt Masur. Esta colección permite acceder a toda la obra de Beethoven y por un precio razonable.

I recently restored speakers I built built during the early 80's based on my patent [...]; the woofers were replaced using modern large excursion sub-woofers. In addition to the usual stereo image testing my goal was to test my subwoofer performance to thundering cathedral organ pipes. One of the several CDs purchased from Amazon was "Glorious Pipes: Organ Music Through the Ages" ; I was not disappointed especially from the material contained on CD #2 tracks 1, 3, 8 and 9. Over all I am pleased with both disks.

This is absolutely my favorite CD that we bought for our baby! We've bought quite a few classical-music-for-baby compilations, and this is far and away the best. The music is fun, flirty, stimulating, sweet, and beautifully performed. It's not syrupy, dumbed-down, or played on electronic instruments like some of those other compilations. We listen to it all the time. I now buy this as a baby shower gift for everyone I know!

This a wonderfull Handel CD, a great mix of his songs both uptempo and sacred. I don't really know much about his works but i thought this cd as a casual fan of the artsist was a very good mix of songs.

An excellent compilation of early church music performed beautifully by the Taverner Consort, Choir, and Players, and conducted by Andrew Parrott. The recording is clear and the sound well balanced. It is also an exceptional value - 30 tracts (2 1/2 hours of music) on 2 CDs for less that $10.
