After listening to a representative sample, I would argue this set is a bargain at 3 times the price: Yes the recordings are much as Bach would have wanted them performed. Its as if you could enter a time capsule and arrive at the Thomaskirche just in time for the Sunday Mass. Most of the comments below about the sound or performance quality of this collection are due to this and not to production or recording standards which are high throughout. The 17 discs of organ works alone are more than worth the price of admission. As a whole they could possibly be the best collection available today at any price. Just finished listening to the disc and very pleased - lots of light and airy works some towards the end are very soft with surprising CRESENDOS at the end to wake u up! Another super disc to add to the andsnes collection !

This is a wonderful CD. The Salisbury Organ is in the very capable hands of Organist, Michael Murray. Not only does the CD demonstrate for us the great qualities of the Tuba Mirabilis and 32' Ophicleide, but also the soft string sounds of the organ. A definite must buy!

As the daughter of an organist, and having grown up with a full sized church organ (albeit electric and not a pipe organ) in the house, I heard a lot of wonderful music. My favorite is the R. Vaughn Williams "Prelude on the Welsh Hymn Tune 'Rhosymedre'". Such a lovely piece has never been matched, in my opinion. And it is rare to find it on any recording. But this CD has it!!! And Mr Wilson's interpretation is very similar to my dad's. I love this entire CD. And such a fine organ!!! Thank you for bringing a wonderful memory back to me. This is a recording that anyone who enjoys beautiful, calm organ music should have in their collection.

As a three year old, I listened to this LP album endlessly. It helped me develop a life long interest in organ music and organ building. The Riverside Church Aeolian-Skinner's sound and depth is one which I have instinctively compared most other organs to this day. Fox's charisma, style, interpretation and choice of pieces on this album I still truly love, even though I have learned to enjoy other more "traditional" approaches. You'll never hear more imaginative but appropriate registrations, heart-felt renderings of Bach or energetic ones of Handel. As well, other pieces less well known, e.g., the Mulet and Boyce are special favorites. This recording of Rachmaninov's complete solo piano music and concertos is indeed one of the most inspiring performances by the formidable piano virtuoso Idil Biret. The overall approach conveys an in depth and musically comprehensive understanding of Rachmaninov's dramatic and powerful style. The playing of the four concertos is absorbing and their musical priorities are warmly and compassionately expressed. Biret's choosing somewhat slower tempos does tend to allow for a greater communicative element of Rachmaninov's passionate and beautifully shaped lines.
