Not exactly sure what I would do without these recordings. A world without Bach: a scary thought. My pulse slackens a bit each time I put these on. Relaxing, sure, but also tremendously moving. A perfect antidote for the trivial drone, distraction, and bustle of our post-capitalist world. No need to go buy new-age computer glitch world-music ambience; this is sonic therapy, written centuries before we needed it.

This is just beautiful music--very melodious and evocative. Yo-Yo Ma is a consummate musician. Wonderful compositions like Morricone's in his hands is a delight to the ears and emotions. I highly recommend this CD.

I remember this from when I was a child and I'm so happy to be able to share it with my own children. They absolutely love this: in the car, at home, to fall asleep to. The music is just as phenomenal as I remember it and my kids love identifying the different instruments!

I loved these songs since I first heard them. Especially the RAPSODY IN BLUE which I probably heard it first in the movie, An American In Paris.
This cd rendition is perfect. I have it loaded on my pod as well as having the cd in my office to listen to (among others) as I do my work in here. I strongly recommend this cd to everyone. Bev Sorensen

I totally respect YoYo Ma but this CD was a little disappointing because all the tunes were more like jaz and improv than nice tight blue grass and Appalachian fiddle tunes. One reel was nice but they all had a slow dirge quality that disappointed me.

It is nice to have both of Gould's recordings on one CD. As for the performances, well, it is Glenn Gould.

The sumptuous tone that characterises Joshua Bell's CD provides what promises to be a brilliant listening experience. But for me there is a very fine line between sensitivity and sentimentality and too often he slithers over into unlovely swoops and slurs. Lush lyricism or sloppy sentiment? I don't think I will be listening to this CD very often but I will buy his interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Violin concerto which is a wonderful test of sensitivity v. sentimentality and see whether he will let the great composer speak.

My nephew mentioned his desire to hear some classical music (Yo-Yo Ma, especially) on the boring trips back & forth from college. He really seemed to enjoy receiving the CD for Christmas!

Not long ago, I listened to Olivier Messiaen's *Quartet for the End of Time* for the first time. I did not know what to make of it when it started, but by the time it ended it had made a deep impression. Since then I have listened to it several times more. Without the description provided by Messiaen, I wonder how many listeners would have guessed what the quartet was all about, or called it one of the greatest works of the twentieth century. I can't prove it, but possibly critics would have called it an interesting experiment. Yet the music taken together with its explanation (including the circumstances under which it was composed) communicates a compelling vision. I have attempted to convey some of Messiaen's vision with the aid of quotes from his description (as translated in the liner notes from the original ... Read More

This is a great CD to listen to after a stressfull day at work. Debussy was an impressionist musician, or that's what they called him during his life. Most people don't know that there were impressionists that were not painters, so this classical musician is a breath of fresh air even for those that do not like classical music.
