I am amazed by people who attempt to stereotype creative genius. Because this album takes on a distinctly different (more ominous, brooding, cutting) mood from the first two albums, they regard it sub-standard! Even in the classic 'Rolling Stone Record Guide' of 1983, the 'critic' failed to appreciate this album, giving it a meagre three stars because he felt its lyrics over-critical and dated. Yet I listen to this album in 2008, 25 years later, and am still moved, and deeply so, by the universality of the subject matter - to say nothing of the music itself. It is, after all, by induction that we generalise from the particular - something that Dylan the bard is brilliant at achieving in his tales. (In just the same way, the critics, and those they influence, miss the boat by regarding 'Live ... Read More

It was with "Freewheelin'", his second album, that Bob Dylan established himself as a great songwriter. Featured are all-time classics like "Blowin' In The Wind", "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". But some lesser known gems, such as "Bob Dylan's Dream", are also included. "Masters Of War" is at an anti-war song with Dylan at his most venomous and "Girl From The North Country" is one of his most beautiful romantic ballads.

This is a young, idealistic Dylan playing raw, stripped down folk music. But with witty, perceptive and extremely sardonic lyrics that take it to a whole new level. To see the glorious roots of the best songwriter of the last 50 years there is no better place to start than here.

There's two kinds of people in the world, people who get Bob Dylan and people who don't. Bob Dylan's first album portrays his very soul in its rawest confusion and crisis. His heart cries out to the world in every one of these songs. This is truly one of music's greatest albums, and if you really do appreciate music, this album is a must have.

Well, if you don't have this do yourself a favour and buy it. The package is great with great photos from the show.
As for Dylan, he is in high spirits and most possibly stoned out of his mind as he laughs, shares jokes, forgets lyrics...
He is also delivering all songs passionately making this one concert a very special indeed. A mere three months later he was recording Bringing It All Back Home and by doing so he was also a new Dylan.

Another Side of Bob Dylan being Dylan's 1964 release and his 4th studio album is a very good album and at the time it was a departure from his overt issue oriented folk music which had dominated his previous records. Instead he started to write introspective lyrics which was not appreciated by the folkpress They felt like he was getting tempted by the allures of fame and in a way selling out. To Ramona, All I really want to do are some of the gems on this album. Ballad in plain D is a very personal track which deals with a breakup with a former girlfriend. The book-let is very nice with amazing pictures of Dylan doing different things. There are no lyrics included and instead we get a poem from Dylan which is quite odd but typical 60's material. 5/5.
