this cd is a tribute to Miles Davis if you are exposed to his style and
ever listened to Kind of Blue. The tracks are a fusion of east meets
west with all traditional instruments played by masters of the same.
If you have a good system it will reveal the recording quality.Very nice
happy listening and enjoy.

There are not many CD's that my husband and I both enjoy, but this is one of the few. My husband loves Funk and I love Smooth Jazz, and I found this CD to be a unique combination of the two. We loved the guest appearances of Funk legends, especially Boosy Collins, and we would definitely recommend this compilation to our friends or even give as a gift during the holidays. But word to the wise, if you don't like Funk, don't buy anything with Funk in the title. Yaba dabba doo baby!

As my title says, I consider this box set an overview...all in good reason, though. As a guitarist myself that has never really known where to begin when dealing with Jazz guitar, this set which was actually a gift was the absolute perfect place to start. It is the greatest open-door into the Jazz guitar world. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to drop-anchor here though. It would be doing the people who put this box-set together a disservice. Branching out using this box-set as a springboard is the best thing you can do when building a Jazz guitar collection. I highly recommend it!

I have found this to be the best MMW album yet. I listen to MMW on the bus and let the images flow. MMW combines new elements to this cd which I have never experienced before. shifting ballads that rearrange the universe. particles of spaghetti westerns mixed in schizophrenic rhythms; entrenched in the aloneness that is the human experience. Irish crack infused mercenaries screaming ballads that will never be heard or understood again. Yes I loved this cd---the imagery is raw, the feelings intense, and the experimental edge always developing before your very eyes.

Kenny Garrett is a superb alto sax-player. This recording shows a comfortable Kenny playing this "funky-jazz" style, although I believe that he has recorded before better works. I was lucky to attend yesterday Kenny's concert in Sala Clamores Jazz (Madrid- Spain). The concert was excellent, although this recording in only fairly good.

Victor Wooten is a joyful man. You can hear the joy in all his music. But run through this CD at least two or three times and listen to his amazing technical prowess so you get past all that, because he has. Just settle in for some very enjoyable performances. In Wooten's case
those chops are just a means to an end, and not an end it themselves.

2 Timers is an upbeat song that sounds like it could have come from Weather Report, and features some very fine harmonica work. It has a smooth transition where the bass part stays the same behind a very clever time change, from frenetic bounce to easygoing stroll and then
back again. Cambo has a vague vocal (indistinct lyrics, or maybe none at all) that sounds influenced by Middle Eastern laid over a strong foundation, but with a keyboard solo that unfortunately ... Read More
