Some of the themes are originally from the TV shows but I specifically bought this CD because other reviewers claimed that it had the original theme from The Love Boat. If that is the theme you're looking for, don't bother getting this CD.

This is a great CD, even if it is outdated (no theme from First Contact, Insurrection or Nemesis.) But this CD is great. The sound effects are annoying, that much we can all agree on, but for those bashing the concert arrangement of the Original Series theme...this is the arrangement by Alexander Courage himself arranged for concert, its performed the same way by John Williams and the Boston Pops on the CD "Out of This World" among other Williams/BPO compilations. I would rank this CD below Silva's "The Star Trek Album" and Varese's "The Ultimate Star Trek", but above Naxos "Star Trek" album. Though, a Star Trek fan should have all of them! and even if your not a star trek fan, this is a good sampler at a cheap price. People selling this for under $5 with shipping! Thats a bargain. ... you would have to buy dozens of individual soundtracks to include even some of the music here. slight adjustment to john williams (for example) originals but well performed. outstanding variety. use these cds to jump start your day with triumph!

This is a splendid cd if you enjoy movie themes. Original performances that bring back fond memories of the films. Many selections included.

Jerry Goldsmith delivers a fantastic score, with music that stands alone as a wonderment of soundscapes. The juxtaposition of the numbers make for a solid delivery, as each build upon the colors already on the canvas. Main Title/Locutus aptly sets the tone, with The Dish, First Contact and End Credits the best of Goldsmith's entries. A neat bonus is Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride and Roy Orbison's Oooby Dooby. This rates very highly in the Goldsmith catalog of soundtracks and arguably the finest of his work in the Star Trek franchise.

Star Trek V the final frontier (1989) has a wonderful soundtrack! The music is produced by Jerry Goldsmith! Jerry Goldsmith did the music for Star Trek the motion picture(1979)! I recommend this soundtrack CD because it is very good. Star Trek V is very under rated and the soundtrack is is also under rated! Please give this Star Trek V CD a chance! It is better than you think! A+ I highly recommend it!

Wow, this score brings a tear to a Trekkie's eye. It's beautiful, futuristic, haunting and most of all thematic and bold. Cliff Eidelman has proven he can compose with the likes of Horner and Goldsmith by writing and conducting a score that breaches beyond the everyday into the further reaches of musical immortality. If you love this score as much as I do, you will also love Horner's "Wrath of Khan" and perhap even more so Goldsmith's "Star Trek, The Motion Picture" or "Insurrection." If listening to true Star Trek music hits you buttons in just the right way, you will need to add this score to your collection, it really is worth it.

OK, there are a lot of movie composers that you could call the Big Leaguers. John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, and Jerry Goldsmith. I don't know who was in charge of this compilation, but I can't believe they would cull the "essential" music of such a gifted composer but overlook one of his most stirring and moving soundtracks. I'm talking of course about the 1970 war epic "Patton". To not include any of that music is just a travesty and that's why I am only giving this collection a 2 star rating.

Not the best Star Trek Album but has some great tunes. It seems a little predictable and repediative sometimes though the main theme seems to warm my heart when it kicks in.

Yes, I'm a geek. I admit that I love the music on this CD. But in my own defense, the composers for the tracks on this CD are some of the most prolific, talented, and successful soundtrack composers in film today, or ever. They are all in a class by themselves. That being said, Erich Kunzel and the CPO so beautifully deliver these tracks that the tracks are heightened even further. But Telarc? Oh, they heighten the experience even FURTHER (is that possible??) The recording quality is phenomenal! (tip.. .if you want to REALLY test the subs in our car, let Ascent lead into Also Sprach Zarathustra, if you don't hear the <30Hz tone ALL the way through between tracks, your system sucks.
