Don't let the 3 star rating fool you. I love Radiohead. In fact, I think a few songs on here are among my favorite of their whole discography. However, I can't quite say the same over the majority of the album. To me as more of a listener, I don't try exploring all the little nooks and crannies of albums a lot of times and, perhaps and probably, as a result, I really couldn't and still can't see the massive appeal this album brings. Is it junk? Hardly. But I don't believe it deserves the massive reputation it has. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, though. Radiohead is a strongly developed and acquired taste. Is there any question that pretty much any album Butch Vig got his hands on in the early 90's was a major success? I used to attribute the success of this album, along with others, to the bands that played the music. But really, it would seem it was Butch Vig's involvement that really produced the popular sound of early 90's alternative rock. The heavy use of the Big Muff and other vintage 70's effects such as the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase...all of this contributed to some hugely successful albums. As soon as the Smashing Pumpkins changed producers, their popularity diminished, and their sound changed. This album really represents great studio work, and an understanding of what simply sounds good. Vintage analog effects will always surpass modern digital equivalents.

Anyone who gives this cd anything less than 5 stars is an idiot and your village does'nt want you back. This music collection is so unique that it has held it's popularity from generation to generation. (The only true test of greatness). This particular example of creative prog rock puts Pink Floyd up there in rarified air with all the heavyweights, like Mozart,Beethoven,and Tchaikovsky. Great music is intellectual , and that is why some people don't get it. The majority of people are looking for a cd chocked full of little 4 minute ditties because they have the attention span of a knat. One great song after another. This was the first album I heard for radiohead, so I went and bought all the other albums expecting them to be the same style as this one, I was disappointed. All the other albums were a bit weird and no where near this one. So I advise you if your new to this band make this album be the first.

I bought this because it said 3 LP Vinyl.... and it was just 2 when it arrived.... Shame on you Amazon!!!! Nevertheless it's MASTER OF PUPPETS, so you can't miss....

Hail to the Thief is in my opinion one of the best Radiohead cd's period. Most when thinking about Radiohead immediately think about Kid A, completely disregarding Hail. But! That's a mistake. Hail.. has the brilliant songs: Myxomatosis, Backdrifts and The Gloaming. If you don't already own it, get it now. And if you can, see them live. It will give you an even greater appreciation

The only way to describe this album is "indescribable". Of the entire collection, one song will forever stick in my mind. "Such Great Heights" was introduced to me by my ex, along with several other songs from the album. Though they were difficult to hear over the rumble of the car's ragged engine, I got a sense of the album's pop-electric-indie ambiance which still haunts me. "When you are out there on the road..." The chorus makes me think of flying high above the earth with the one you love, above the troubles where "everything looks perfect from far away." The middle "break-down" is perfectly spaced and wonderfully blended. This song encompasses all moods, from wistful, to happy, to hurting, to love. Frankly, the music of Sufjan Stevens is a bit too twee and precious for my everyday tastes, but I'll be the first to admit that he comes close to touching something that exists in all of us -- that innate and intangible sense of "place" and "home" the likes of which famed authors John Steinbeck and Thomas Wolfe respectively attempted to dispel and recapture. This is more than simple reportage and anecdote; it's nothing less than a youthful attempt to get one's arms around the unifying spirit of, what seems obvious to Stevens, this "nation under God" -- something for both believers and agnostics to appropriately ponder.
