Got high Hopes but was a bit dissapointed by it all !
I think that the combination could have been tremendous but the album did not excite me at all .. I thought Alison could have tuned up better ..
But it is only me !

I didn't have any trouble with the CD that the other reviewer had - the issue must have been isolated/random. The music on this release is a fine example of Piedmont Blues. Acoustic, jocular, nimble, thoughtful, and honest. Just guitar, harmonica, and the ragged-but-right sound of John Cephas singin' the blues.

I liked the verbal sincerety and clarity of the instructor. His teaching style and playing command are inspiring, and for this I would give him 5 stars. I did get good tips from him that I now have to just practice as much as possible. The fact that the instructor taught his lessons with a Fender electric guitar throughout the DVD was a big turn off for me and unfortunately weighs quite a bit on my overall rating. I wish the DVD cover would not mislead customers, and I wisk that other reviewers had commented on this, as it would have changed my decision to purchase this DVD.

I like the instrumentation of this CD; it's got a lot going on in ways that you don't normally hear, but the actual melodies get kinda boggy about halfway through (or sooner), and if Van Morrison CAN sing (like a pro) he blatantly refuses to do so. Another perfect example of how this "they/we write their/our own songs, so they're/we're better" mentality is ruining music; not that it's a new thing, obviously; this album came out in 1968 after all, before The Beatles broke up, but I think music would be more enjoyable if people would quit trying to do everything themselves and work as a team; i.e.: someone writes the music, someone else arranges it, someone else sings it, someone else performs it...of course it's impressive when someone can do all of that and pull it off without a scratch, but most ... I preordered this CD. I just listen to it for the second time. This is satire at it's most boring. Don't bother with this CD. Ry has done much more interesting stuff, both lyrically and musically. Listen to the samples before you buy. I wish I did. If you like what you hear ignore this and go with your own tastes but for me "yuck!"

Keb is a talented musician with a beautiful voice and solid poetic compositional skills. Very much appreciated that he participated in the Vote For Change tour in '04, and thought that he, Bonnie and Jackson Browne were one hell of a trio.

This album invites you to unite and a human race and celebrate all of us. She draws from vast source of great songwriters. Yes even Garth Brooks! I saw her live on tour with Holly Near and others and I think my favorite songs live were John Brown and War. On the album I love We Shall Be Free. The driving guitar sounds like a train on John Brown and War was turned into the mournful warning. But mostly the album is just too much fun. This is because they sound like they are having fun. The sound is raw like it came straight out of Memphis and Stax Records which adds some real authenticity to the soul. Seriously though seeing her live blew my mind because I never realized what a vocal range she had! Holy heavenly god of cow gods!
