I felt the music was deeply moving & calming. I can't stand when classical pieces try to be everything to everyone, with soft moments ... leading to cannons firing at the height of it all. The only thing I wish is that some of the pieces were not reprised so often. It would have been nice to hear more originals over the length of the album. Other than that ... it is a wonderful type of music to help disconnect from the daily pressure of being a human!

As a relatively new recorder player, I wanted to listen to an experienced professional, to hear the techniques and phrasings an experienced recorder player can utilize.Even after reading the other rave reviews, I was not prepared for the virtuosity I was to experience.Michala Petri did for my musicality now, what Andres Segovia did many years ago when I learned to play classical guitar.I was inspired,humbled, and totally blown away by her shear talent! Another great collection of songs in this series with very good performances of the pieces. Calm and soothing and definately recommended to relax by.

I chose Fiddler for my students' spring musical, and always like to get the original cast recording to help give me an idea of the original idea for the pieces in the show. This recording definitely delivers, and the interview with Sheldon Harnick at the end is an extra treat. Awesome CD!

I am not an expert in classical music, but have always loved the string instruments. I bought this CD for relaxation (as the title implies) and to help me focus on writing a thesis. I was torn between this CD and the Cello for Relaxation. I am pleased with my choice. My favorites are track #2 and #10 (listen to the samples through Amazon) - I usually play these two on repeat. My least favorite is track #7 because it sounds like a piano dominated movie soundtrack. Although I wish I could have exchanged some of the tracks for others, I think this CD was worth the money and is a nice mix for those of us who don't know specific composers by name or who want a good sampling.

This album is so relaxing that I have not heard the end of it. I am usually fast asleep before the end.

I bought this because I wanted the cheapest CD that had Anna Moffo's incomparably superb performance of Vocalise. (You can get a free preview of the full Anna Moffo Vocalise performance if you seach on YouTube). I just love this piece. The other Rachmaninoff selections on the CD are very good too, but they are still excerpts-- I would recommend this only for people unfamiliar with Rachmaninoff who want a sampler, or want the Anna Moffo Vocalise selection. If you love Rachmaninoff you'll want to get separate CD's with the full piano concertos, full piano preludes, etc. However, the Moffo Vocalise performance is hard to find, so I bought this-- and at this low price, you can't go very wrong.

Many versions of this wonderful piece, instrumental and vocal, and all are very well done.

This two CD recording is an absolute steal at the price here on Amazon. A stunning performance by Vladimir Ashkenazy leaves the listener with a sense of the beauty that Mozart heard when we was just a teenager writing these violin concertos. I would definitely purchase this set again in a heartbeat.
