David Usher's 3rd solo CD builds on his previous two releases and is simply some of the most moving, brilliant music you will hear. Although darker and a bit more of a spark plug, it's Rufus Wainwright that he increasingly reminds me of with his experiment with melody and diverse instrumentation on the arrangements. On the opening title track he sings, "Standing on the top looking down, thought it'd be so damn easy," as the guitars fire with staccato breathiness in the bridge. Five of the tracks on the disc rate classic status, which is an incredible percentage of truly great tracks on any one non-greatest hits release.

On "I'm Coming Down" David as a vocalist expresses such desperate discontent with normalcy as his voice hits the upper registers with an incredibly dramatic ... Read More

This is David Usher doing what he does best - writing pure poetry and setting it to music so listenable you'll be hard-pressed to take this CD off repeat. Usher takes his place easily amoung the best singer/songwriters of his day, he is a true bard. The combination of complex lyrics and simple melodies are his trademark, and he's at the top of his game with Strange Birds. I listened to it nonstop during the last 2 months of my pregnancy with my son who was born in June - to this day nothing calms him down like David Usher's voice.

My friend bought me this cd when I went to her house one night because it was only $3. It's an ok cd.

1. *NSYNC- No Strings Attached
Most of you have already heard this song, I don't like *NSYNC that much, but the song isn't terrible. I think it's funny the way they say "attached" though...

2. Pink- Do What You Do
Yeah, I do what I do and skip this song; normally I like Pink, but this song isn't that great, but it really sticks in my head.

3. Usher- You Are The One
I lot of people like Usher, and this song is ok, it sounds like his other ones. Is Usher his real name?????

4. Britney Spears- I'll Never Stop Loving You
I'll never stop loving this song! I am a fan of Britney, and I think that this song was between her first ... Read More

Apparently, this was a Canadian-only release, but is well worth checking out down here South of the Border. David Usher's "Hallucinations" and "Morning Orbit" were excellent discs with flashes of brilliance. What Usher does sonically that is exceptional is create a sense of urgency that is both lyrically complex and melodically original. On "Faithless" his guitars create a sonic waterfall that reach high and low in the matter of a measure, "Can't fake a life so beautiful, can't escape a world so faithless." On "Going Home" his voice soars for a measure and then falls into a gentle caressing hush, "I'm seeing the car crash, the end of the love song, and even now I can't make it back where you are." Usher uses Gloria Steinham's words in the catchy "Love Will the Say the Day" that alternates between ... Read More

This Import is better than the US version, as it includes the single Pop Ya Collar which, surprisingly didn't do well in the US. The import also includes TTP, another great song left off the US CD and Separated, which could have been left off the album.

Apart from Can U Help Me and How Do I Say (two soppy ballads from Jam and Lewis), every song on this album could be a hit single. The obvious great songs are the singles - U Remind Me, U Got It Bad and U Don't Have To Call, but other good songs include I Don't Know, Twork It Out and U-Turn.

Buy this CD and you won't be disappointed. Almost all the songs are great and worth your money. I would recommend the import if you're willing to spend a little more as the extra songs are worth it.

Now I got this cd yesterday and dont listen to the other guy because if you put this cd in on the dvd side you can watch music videos look at lyrics and listen to 8701 in 2 ways. The music videos are: U remind me video,U got it bad video,U got it bad soul power remix video, and U dont have to call to call and the making of 8701.That other guy is probably a hater and has a crappy T.V. It also has a biography of Usher. Now to the cd. This cd I got after I got confessions special edition. This cd has way better songs. One of my most favorite songs is I dont Know because this song has P.Diddy. Well those are my reviews.
Top 5 songs:
1.U got it bad

3.U remind me
4.I dont know feat.P.Diddy

Music : Body of Mind
Along with Discipline and Tiles, House Of Usher emerged from the Detroit progressive rock scene in the mid 90's. While the other two bands gained a solid cult following, House Of Usher, although having some fans, never seemed to catch on at the same level. I saw them live twice, first at ProgDay in North Carolina, and in Detroit. The band's music fits into the neo prog vein. Personally I don't think they were quite as good as the other two Detroit prog stalwarts, but "Body Of Mind" is a decent effort that should please fans of more neo oriented modern prog. The band's sound is very much influenced by classic 70's prog rock, and has a similar sound to more modern bands like Iluvatar or Alias Eye. In fact House Of Usher's vocalist sound very similar to the Alias Eye vocalist. Most of the songs are in the 4 to 7 minute ... Read More
