While I would have deemed 10,000 Days the worst Tool album to date a couple of months ago, I have given it enough time to decide that it is slightly better than Undertow. The sheer quality of the album is simply shadowed by how difficult and limit pushing the music is. Every song on the album is in some way a new exciting revelation for Tool, who having been out of the studio for five years really had to prove that they weren't loosing their touch. Some familiar aspects of Tool are still here. The touches of filler, the difficult rhythms, and progressive style are still here. These details remind us that Tool is still very much one with their fans. During the filler song Lipan Conjuring, Adam Jones "sings" along lightly with a creepy Native American chant. This detail caught my ear for some ... Read More

Stsrt to finish, this is fantastic piece of work. I put it up there with Stones (Sticky Fingers and Exile), Who (Who's Next), Zep (I, II, or IV). Not a bad track on the whole disk. A Landmark. We listen to this at work, and it is simply known as "The Album." Hey, Gus, what's next? I think I'll put on "The Album" again. Buy it.

I absolutely love Tool but I somewhat regret buying this LP. The light weight of the vinyl leaves me unsatisfied. Also, the labels look like they were applied by a three year old. The labels were sloppily pressed into the record, cut/torn and don't even feature any artwork (a little boring to look at).

Tool guitarist Adam Jones has said of Opiate that the band wanted to put their fastest, most muscular songs out first to make a splash, and it is easy to see how the plan worked and gained the group early popularity. If Tool's later releases see their ideas fully realized and developed, they are still exhausting and difficult, while the Opiate EP is alternatively short, testosterone fueled, and fairly easy to digest, and probably the reason that Tool were initially grouped into the grunge scene by critics. The single Sweat is representative of the overall style of the album, heavy yes, but also catchy and skillfully written. In fact, it will surprise some that Tool seems to enter their career with great finesse. Adam Jones and Danny Carrey in particular play fast and complex rhythms that would come to characterize ... Magnum Opus..what does it mean?

In its most basic translation, Magnum Opus mean "Great Work" in Latin.
"Great Work" can be taken to mean "Greatest Work".
In a musical context, a band's Magnum Opus would either be:

A) The band's most famous and most popular album
B) The band's greatest, most accomplished, highly achieved work.

To be a Magnum Opus, an album has to basically be the pinnacle of the band's creativity and intention. A Magnum Opus is usually an album of such grand scale and epic emotion that the music world is forever changed due to its presence. To be a Magnum Opus, an album has to excel far beyond the normal confines of genre and style and transcend beyond anything created thus far.

Lateralus is Tool's Magnum Opus. It is single handedly ... Read More

Vitamin records has been releasing these cd's like wild fires, just spreading orchestral music to the lesser audience of it. This cd will give you the rock music that originally started this who phenomenon (apocalyptica).

This cd is great for anyone interested in hearing the depth of a music genre. Typically when you hear a rock song, you dont hear really how the singer is supposed to influence the musical sense of the songs, but when the singer's role is put into a more balanced/equal role with the rest of the musicians, it contributes so much more to the musicality of the song. It is great for beginner musicians to understand that the singer has to be in tune with the band because he is added depth to the music, not just vocals. College music majors might also get a kick out of this album as it widens your ... Read More

Insanely addictive. The only downfall of this album is that it ends. They should put out more live releases. Tool is an all out live experience. You just can't capture their power and creativity on a studio record. You have to see them live to get a true TOOl experience.

Tool has too many problems preventing them from ever reaching greatness.

The most noticeable problem is their lack of talent to actually write a decent vocal melody. Instead, the lead singer sounds like someone who just blurts out whatever kind of vocals he thinks is appropriate, no matter how absurd is sounds, which mostly means he ends up either sounding obnoxious for wasting my time, or comes across sounding JUST as generic as thousands of other singers who are attempting the same thing as far as commercial alternative rock music goes. Choose either one. The sound of his voice alone is enough to send me screaming in total fear.

Then you have the guitar riffs, that are not only uninspiring and uncreative, but supposedly millions of people hear something interesting about them (which is completely mind-boggling ... Read More
