Mary Fahl's voice gets better with time no matter what side of time she's on. I've been a fan since her arrival with the group "October Project." Her lyric s are thoughtful and her alto voice, hauntingly beautiful.

I can't believe I never even heard of Moondog until this week. I heard this double CD at a friend's house and immediately purchased it. I love it! The range of styles and moods, the sheer beauty of the compositions: breathtaking. This has become a favorite very quickly.

If for nothing else, buy this for the brilliant parody of The Whatevertherata. Although, this will be completely lost on those born in the 1960's, to date. I can guarantee you that they will all be truly baffled by it. And, You have no right to be here. And whether you can hear it, or not, the entire Universe is STILL laughing behind your back.

Alberto Iglesias did it again, a wonderful soundtrack!

His last collaboration with Pedro Almodovar, "Talk to her", is one of the best scores I've heard in recent years. In that movie, the scenes of the country villa, accompanying with the touching song of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" by Caetano Veloso, easily became one of the most beautiful five minuets I ever had in a theatre.

Before I went to see "Bad education", I can't help wondering, Could I have another enjoyable moment like "Cucurrucucu Paloma"? Luckily, I did have one, sort of. The Spanish rendition of "Moon River" is such a beautiful and haunting piece. But unluckily, the way the music delivered in the film is so disturbing. It started as a beautiful and innocent singing by a boy standing by the river while ended up with an ... Read More

This disc is not what I thought it would be...and I am glad for it! Release from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra is composed of four delightful orchestral tone poems. Each is fun in its own way.

Yet the Santa Claus Symphony was not what I was thinking it would be. It is amazing how much my expectation of music about Santa has been shaped by twentieth/twenty-first century commercialism. This music was a great antidote to my biases. I enjoy its inventiveness and its palpably felt joy. The carol motif at the end is especially wonderful.

The best of the other three pieces is the Macbeth overture. It is really a great piece that probably deserves a broader audience. Hopefully this disc will win it one.

If you want some great, original music, you could do worse than this ... Read More

6.Evita from: Mca

Music : Evita
This is an excellent version of evita. I prefer julie covington and colm wilkinson to patti lupone and mandy patinkin. Julie to me sounds like a natural evita and colm does a great job; he has an edge to his voice that patinkin most assuredly does not. The only problem is this a 1976 recording and does not have the clarity high fidelity of a modern recording, I definently prefer the sound of the movie version even though madonna isn't a world class singer

I don't think this recording deserves One Star ratings or that the artist deserves such crude bashing. And re: Hampson's eye-colour.... Uh, these aren't lenses? He has blue eyes. I met him many times and...indeed, they are dark blue.

Anyhow, this is what Hampson is focusing on right now, American song. While those aren't exactly my thing I have to say that he sings them beautifully. I wish he'd stick to that rather than heavy Verdi and Wagner which his voice isn't right for.

When Alfred Hitchcock was at the peak of his popularity, thanks to his TV series, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," someone came up with the wonderful idea of Hitch narrating an easy-listening album filled with black humor. Now DRG has reissued this grim but sly gem on CD for the first time. Hitch provides his usual droll commentary while his musical director, Hollywood veteran Jeff Alexander, conducts creepy arrangements of old standards like "After You've Gone" to underline the album's homicidal tendencies. It's great fun if that sort of humor appeals to you. That album has been paired with the soundtrack to the British film "Circus of Horrors," which is less interesting but may appeal to film-score buffs. But Hitchcock fans are urged to pick this one up.
