This is a "must have" for all Three Dog Night fans. This addition to the Around The World disc now gives you just about every hit and favorite in a live version from the TDN catalog. However, missing from this live cd, as well as just about every other live cd from TDN is Chest Fever. Any TDN concert going fan knows that the band likes Chest Fever and Spooner loves it, but for some reason it is left out of every live cd (except Live at the Forum). For me, no TDN Live CD will ever be complete without the addition of Chest Fever.

By 1969, Three Dog Night {along with Creedence Clearwater Revival} were the kings of the pop charts in America. This record is a document of one of their live shows from late 1968. And it is one of the best live recordings we have of a working rock band of that fantastic decade, the sixties.

With frontmen Danny Hutton, Cory Wells and Chuck Negron, these three vocalists were about the finest of their day. But the band of players that included drummer: Floyd Sneed, guitarist: Mike Allsup, bass player: Joe Schermie, and keyboard wiz-kid: Jimmy Greenspoon, really shine on this record. The Dogs had a really great rock band that held it's own along side anyone else on the stages of the 1960's.

Three Dog Night, knew which songs to pick and present in the: "Dog Fashion" of Rock/R & B/Funky style ... Read More

Finally, Around the World is available on CD! I was fortunate enough to see Three Dog Night live in 3 phases of their careers and with all of the original players. This album is a great historic record of any of those Three Dog Night concerts and although it lacks some of the original excitement of "Live at the Forum" it is none the less a true snapshot of their amazing and collective talents. The Dogs roll through hit after hit on this live collection featuring the formidable vocal of the original 3 singers and an amazing rhythm section anchored by bassist Joe Schermie one of the finest rock drummers of his time, Floyd Sneed. The recording isn't great but it isn't bad either and it is if nothing else "of its time" I think that Edsel has done a nice job of this release and although the years may have altered my memory, ... I liked that many of these songs fit into the "one hit wonder" category, it was fun to listen to them again after all this time. I agree with what many people said about the news snip-its randomly inserted through out - while I didn't completely hate them, it was annoying when I created an itunes play list with some of these songs for a party and all of a sudden the music stops and some weird recorded voice stated speaking about some news-worthy event. I thought they might show up as separate tracks on the CD, providing the ability to omit them from playlists, but that was not the case. Dispite this, I love the box set.

I bought this back in the day based on the strength of its three singles, "Joy to the World", "Liar", and "One Man Band". Certainly three of the best singles Three Dog Night ever released to the competition of the charts. Back in 1972 I enjoyed the album, but in retrospect I find that this is one of those gems that only grows over the decades.

You know how it is. Some albums you liked back then you find don't wear well, and when people mention them you reluctantly admit that you actually liked them. "Naturally", on the other hand, has grown in my appreciation.

In short, "Naturally" would be tied for Three Dog Night's best album. There's not a single dud on the thing. Check out "I've Got Enough Heartache". Wow, everything I ever liked about the Grateful Dead's "American Beauty" without any of the LSD-saturated overhead. ... Read More

9.20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Three Dog Night by: Three Dog Night

While a Three Dog Night greatest hits collection is a fine introduction to a talented classic rock band, it's not the ONLY album you need. I'm kind of angry about how Three Dog Night has turned into one of those bands that should only be remembered for a small selection of songs. The fact there's so many greatest hits albums to choose from is proof that record companies are determined to have only the hit songs be featured and remembered. I disagree very very strongly with this. Sure, buy this album for the great classics radio stations used to play all the time, but *please* keep in mind Three Dog Night's studio albums are just as worthy of your time and money.

Stellar album. A third of it is comprised of top 10 singles. They could have gone deeper but people just didn't do that in 1972. A cursory listen to this album would make me think they did this out of respect to the competition. This is the premier 70s band at their peak, it could have been 1972's "Thriller".

Let's get the hits out of the way first. Old Fashioned Love Song by Paul Williams. Never Been To Spain, Hoyt Axton's followup to his "Joy to the World". And my personal favorite, "Family of Man". We're already 30% of the way into this album and we haven't even hit the album cuts yet.

But once you get to the so-called "album cuts" you'll realize why most of this album is included on the 2CD best of 3 Dog Night - this is a phenomenally good album. Was it Joni Mitchell who wrote "Night In The City"? I forget who wrote the original ... Read More
