Teddy (and his management) are smart/brave enough to allow you to stream his ENTIRE album from his website. After two listens, I am now buying the CD here on Amazon. I love to reward an artist as willing to let people hear before they buy. Teddy is a great singer, songwriter and player. His music is more uplifting than any drug (although it sounds EVEN BETTER after a few beers). GOOD JOB TEDDY! SEE YOU IN SEATTLE!

Just in case you're wondering why I don't give FIVE stars, there are probably on about a dozen 5-star albums in my book. FOUR stars is still awesome.

I love Linda Thompson, Teddy's mother and I love Teddy's parents Richard and Linda Thompson together (sadly, they're divorced and no longer perform together). After hearing Teddy on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, I fell in love with his voice as well. In his new CD, a collection mostly of cover songs by such Nashville (and Bakersfield) legends as George Jones, Ernest Tubb, Dolly Parton, and Merle Haggard Teddy Thompson excels. He has the perfect voice for these country classics. Who knew something like this would come from a singer from the UK? Last year another favorite of mine, the great Van Morrison did a CD of country classics and although very good, I think Teddy has eclipsed him. Of course it doesn't hurt that he employs the fabulous Iris Dement on one cut.

I'd read about this soundtrack frequently as it was given mention in many of the artists' CD reviews. I'm glad I put it in the shopping cart. Gustavo Santaolalla's instrumental snippets are beautiful, as they punctuate the soundtrack. He wrote the music for Emmylou Harris' recording "A Love That Will Never Grow Old." With Bernie Taupin doing lyrics, it is a beautifully wistful track with Harris' vocals gorgeous and stately, "Just a smile in your eyes, it can light up the night." Santaolalla also wrote Mary McBride's track "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me" that sounds like it's a blast from the past. The Santaolalla/Taupin team also writes Teddy Thompson's recording of "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" with Thompson's gorgeous vocals plaintive & pure, "All I want to do is live with you." Jackie ... Teddy Thompsons captures the roots feel of sixties folk country
The first four tracks are excellent especially "I wish It Was Over"
The secret to record sales is airplay and that song was featured on TV as part of a summer concert. The last eight tracks are a little sombre and melancholic, but four out of twelve is better than most albums. This young man has future as a singer songwriter.

I bought this CD on the strength of "Wake Up" which I thought was just a fantastic piece of song writing. The rest of the disk was a little underwhelming in the knock my socks off sense. But as with many albums repeated listening brings forth a few gems that I really, really like. "All we Said" and "So Easy" are very nice songs and have made it to my iTunes/iPod rotation. It's also a thrill to hear Richard Thompson's guitar work on several tracks. 3 stars is not a knock against this CD - I rarely ever give 5 stars to anything unless it is absolutely stellar.
