I saw the show in Chicago and loved it. They were selling this same CD in the lobby for $25. I'm glad I resisted and bought it on amazon instead. Great oldies with excellent sound quality.

Personals is a clever weave of modern situations, childish adult behaviour and moving emotions. Having directed this great musical revue twice for the 1992-93 season of Olympic Theatre Arts (Sequim Washington) for an AIDS benefit it was exciting to find that this fun musical comedy was finally recorded to be shared with anyone who has not had the opportunity to attend a production of this show. The cast of this production present this revue brilliantly with just the right amount of sparkle, pathos and desperation. I strongly recommend this show to any production company needing a modern revue which will not only showcase the talents of your performers, but also challenge your audience to try to keep a straight face. Buy this, play this and memorize the words before you set out into the dating ... Read More

Take her or leave her, i give her credit for going broadway, and then spreading these tunes, by these diverse group of artists, out into the stratosphere.
now, to my point: CAN SOMEBODY GET THESE SONG CREDITS RIGHT? RAISE THE ROOF IS FROM THE OFF-BROADWAY 'WILD PARTY' BY ANDREW LIPPA, NOT THE BROADWAY VERSION BY MICHAEL JOHN LACHIUSA.
I don't mind LaChiusa getting royalty money whatever the case, I am a fan of his version of the full length poem, not much of Lippa's, but people. Somebody get this righ and corrected.

This is an excellent compilation of songs, both well and not so well known, which is performed by a first rate cast of performers. This 1983 concert features great vocals with minimal though effective accompaniment. In my opinion, Liz Callaway gives a definitive version of "What More Do I Need?" (Saturday Night) and "The Miller's Son" (A Little Night Music). George Hearn and Victoria Mallory turn in a beautiful rendition of "With So Little To Be Sure Of" (Anyone Can Whistle). Angela Lansbury is accompanied by Stephen Sondheim on the piano to deliver her rendition of "Send in the Clowns," which is one of the better and heartfelt sung and is definitely worth a listen. Selections from all of Sondheim's major musicals except Follies are featured.

Music : Lost in Boston III
The third volume of the LOST IN BOSTON series delves even deeper to bring back the otherwise-forgotten songs written for some of the great Broadway shows. Dropped during out-of-town previews, these songs have been newly-recorded using original orchestrations wherever possible; and feature some of the most talented musical theatre performers.

Highlights from this 3rd volume include "Mama's Talking Soft", a number from GYPSY, which would have been performed by Baby June and Louise. Staging the song involved having the girls dancing on a flat, suspended above the stage, and was only dropped because both Sandra Church and Lane Bradbury refused to be physically endangered. The clever lyric provided a counterpoint to Rose's "Small World" seduction of Herbie; and would later be eerily echoed again in the climactic ... Read More

What a great find this was, First heard 1 song on my local radio station (Love me or Leave me) I was blown away by her rendation. Had a very hard time finding the cd, but I did, at $4.00 at a local used cd store. What a shame, she has no other solo ventures. Looking forward to hearing more from this Wonderful talented lady.

Music : Do I Hear a Waltz? (Pasadena Playhouse Cast)
One of the shows that no-one ever expected to be revived was DO I HEAR A WALTZ?, the 1965 musical version of "Time of the Cuckoo", with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The show crashed and burned during it's original run and was basically relegated to the "fabulous flops" file. Fast forward to 2001 and the Pasadena Playhouse, who decided to dust off the show for a second chance at success.

Alyson Reed, who essayed the role of Cassie in the movie version of "A Chorus Line", played the lovelorn teacher Leona Samish whose holiday in Venice gives way to a whirlwind romance. Veteran Broadway star Carol Lawrence (most famously the original Maria in "West Side Story") plays the ebullient hotelier Signora Fioria, and sings the role's main number "This Week Americans" with all the showmanship and ... Music : Kurt Weill: The Centennial
Kurt Weill continues to baffle me with his music. It is only through his interpreters that his work is defined from the theatrical styles of Ute Lemper, Lotte Lenya to the hip versions of Sinatra and Darin. And that makes his music so intriguing that his ouvres continues to be played in various styles and in more frequent fashion.

This Centennial collaboration is a welcome addition to that growing list of Weill tributes. Finally, I enjoyed his "Lost In The Stars" and "It Never Was You" compositions - works I find difficult to appreciate. Thank you Messrs. Peters and Panaro for singing these songs in a way I could understand musically! I wan't expecting the ubiquitous "Mack the Knife" would come out interesting but Shirley Jones' powerful rendition made the song worth giving attention. Even actress Sally Kellerman ... Read More

I am proud to own this CD...Buddy Bregman's arrangements of the great big band hits of the 30's and 40's are wonderfully fresh, with a modern twist. In my opinion, Buddy is one of the best big-band arrangers in the business, bar none. Buddy, I'd love to hear a follow-up CD in the near future!!!!!
