After listening to a representative sample, I would argue this set is a bargain at 3 times the price: Yes the recordings are much as Bach would have wanted them performed. Its as if you could enter a time capsule and arrive at the Thomaskirche just in time for the Sunday Mass. Most of the comments below about the sound or performance quality of this collection are due to this and not to production or recording standards which are high throughout. The 17 discs of organ works alone are more than worth the price of admission. As a whole they could possibly be the best collection available today at any price. This is the BEST Christmas collection that I have ever heard. I would like to purchase 15 more to give as gifts this year; however, it appears that Decca is out of stock or no longer releasing it. HELP!!

I wish I had completed reading the review. I didn't take the term "lessons" literally, as I should. I find the read passages of scripture intrusive interruptions of otherwise lovely music.

The selections chosen are, for the most part, to my taste, but the volume is comprised of fewer supurb selections, such as those masterpieces by Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart that were found in Vol. I.

This album is a beautiful example of some of Arvo Part's best works. Each piece is thoroughly enjoyable and the entire collection makes a wonderful addition to anyone's music library. Arvo Part is one of the most important composers in contemporary music.

I am the proud owner of at least thirty Christmas CD's. This compilation is the best collection of quality music performed superbly that I have ever heard. I had to drive 1400 miles by myself before Christmas and I never tired of listening to this wonderful music. I also ordered several more copies of "#1 Christmas Album" to gift to family and friends who enjoy quality music.

Rachmaninoff: Vespers / Cleobury, King's College Choir A wonderful CD I can listen to for many hours! Beautiful voices. Though the music of Rachmaninoff is not always very easy to listen to because it can be quite complicated, these vespers are very accessible. So if you think Rachmaninoff isn't the composer you want to listen to, you probably will think differently after listening to this CD. Visitors who came in my house while I was listening to this CD wanted to know which music I was listening to and wanted to have the CD themselves.
