I got this for my Dad, and he loves it, it takes him back in time, that's what music can do....remembering a simpler time.

Roger Miller wrote and performed mostly light-hearted, sometimes goofy, but clever, country songs. Then, after he had left the stage for almost a generation, he penned this classic musical. When I first saw it performed in a regional theater, I had to be convinced that it was the same Roger Miller. Who would have thought he had so wide a range in musical styles, such with virtuosity in all of them? The songs range from sensitive to hilarious, giving as wide a range of emotion as one could expect from a musical. This is a musical for everybody -- even those who dismiss the musical-theater genre as too frivolous for their masculinity!

I'd read about this soundtrack frequently as it was given mention in many of the artists' CD reviews. I'm glad I put it in the shopping cart. Gustavo Santaolalla's instrumental snippets are beautiful, as they punctuate the soundtrack. He wrote the music for Emmylou Harris' recording "A Love That Will Never Grow Old." With Bernie Taupin doing lyrics, it is a beautifully wistful track with Harris' vocals gorgeous and stately, "Just a smile in your eyes, it can light up the night." Santaolalla also wrote Mary McBride's track "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me" that sounds like it's a blast from the past. The Santaolalla/Taupin team also writes Teddy Thompson's recording of "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" with Thompson's gorgeous vocals plaintive & pure, "All I want to do is live with you." ... Nana Mouskouri continues to be one of my favorite female singers. Her voice is amazing...and she sings in many different languages, too.

I listened to just a couple of the clips that were presented on this page and...wow...these guys are hard-core-bad-to-the-bone. I am an avid trombone player and I love this CD. To me it shows off just how capable and versatile the instrument that we all love is.

I am NOT a fan of classical music. That single fact makes this extremely positive review perhaps even more impressive. Put simply, this CD offers vocal versions of several classical classics and movie scores as well. Summer is not an established "star" name in the music business but, one listen to some of the samples of songs like Nella Fantasia or Cavatina will convince you of the merits of Summer's outstanding singing talent and, perhaps even bring tears to your eyes as they did for me. It is no accident that this CD debuted as number two on the UK Crossover Chart. Lest you believe the entire CD is classical music, movie buffs will recall Nella F. from Ennino Morricone's award winning score for The Mission while Cavtina was featured in the movie Platoon and Fragile was written by Sting. ... True, Roger Miller wrote some GREAT manic/comic country songs, but his depth as a writer (e.g.: the sadness and truth of a song like "Dang Me")is often overlooked and this is the best existing collection to allow listeners to more fully appreciate the many facets of a truly underestimated talent. His back catalog is in a sad state of disrepair and has been for years. Buyer beware: numerous widely available budget "Best ofs" are actually re-recordings done in the 80s of classic Miller material. Still Roger Miller, just not the recordings done when his star was shining the brightest. If you seek prime Miller in single disc form, you'd best seek out Smash Hits on Smash Records and the harder to find Country Tunesmith, a CD reissue of his 1970 "For The Country" record on which Miller ... I'll throw my hat into the ring with Frank & ClassicalFan, you must read their reviews. I won't rehash these excellent commentaries, however, I would add that so many compilations of baroque music are clich'e, but not here. The musical selection was masterfully done. Not only will you hear some uncommon Baroque gems, you will become engulfed in their contemplitive reflection. This music is true salve for the soul!
