Heard/saw this fine singer for the first time last night on Austin City Limits - I stopped watching The World Series game three to experience her!! Now I can't get enough of her!!! Bought tickets to see her at the Arden, Delaware Gild Hall on Dec. 6 (2008). I can't believe the tickets were only $19.00 each!! I haven't been this excited about an artist since Alison Krauss - and Carrie writes much of her material, too. This album showcases both her writing and vocal talents! I highly recommend it!

Also heard it on NPR and discovered it. It's a brilliant album, cover-to-cover, one of the true ones you can listen to in order and just sit back and enjoy. It really has a theme and a progression. Beautiful stuff.

100% trip music. The downside to this album is that there is no vocals but thats hardly a downside. To me you just focus entirely on all the intensity that this quintet can throw at you in this 8 song ensemble. If you like Mars Volta or The Apocolypse Inside Of An Orange (a solo project from Omar) then this is definately something you should pick up. If yo0u dont have any of the aforementioned then take advantage of amazon's multi-cd discount and buy what you can because I find myself just wanting more.

i have the first four works by her with chip taylor and this one just doesn't come close although good in her own way it isn't the sound i'm looking for

As a Classic Country Afficianado, I appreciate these greatest hits CDs because, while I have most of what I want on LP-Vinyl, they do not work at all in my car, and the CDs really take up the slack while I'm Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico.........

Omar's fourth studio album, sees Omar bring in Juan Alderete on bass, Money Mark on keyboard and synthesizer, Adrian Terrazas-Gonzalez on saxophone and bass clarinet and finally Omar's brother, Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez on drums to form the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quintet. Although recorded in 2005 in Amsterdam, it was not released on CD until earlier on this year. The album starts off like a chilled out jazz rock album with saxophone dominant opening track `Melting Chariot'. Then second track, `Knee Deep in the Loving Hush of Heresy' heads straight in to a frenzied, intensive blast of heavy guitars and drumming, before heading back into that chilled out zone, like that of the first track. I live in Australia. we never got to experience the whole grindhouse, as both movies were shown seperately. Planet Terror is my pick of the two, and the soundtrack is brillent on it's own.

Even though the quality of the music and the video itself is good, it was defective. It stops playing at the 10th track. I liked it and for this reason I have requested a replacement.Tango Argentina [DVD Video]

THEY TOOK MY MONEY BUT NEVER SHIPPED THE ITEM, WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT IT THEY SAID THAT IT HAD NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE (THEN WHY DID YOU a-ADVERTISE IT FOR SALE and b-ACCEPT PAYMENT FOR IT?) & CLAIMED THAT THEY'D ALREADY INITIATED A REFUND. A FULL WEEK LATER I HAD TO FILE WITH AMAZON A-Z TO GET MY MONEY BACK. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

My first exposure to Anna Russel was through that venerable old Canadian institution, CBC Radio. The program I was listening to featured, among more respectful pieces by other artists, Anna's "music appreciation" lecture on the bagpipes. I laughed to the point of tears! Rarely had I heard anything so funny! By the conclusion of the piece, I was determined to purchase a copy of the CD for my own music collection. In Encore?, Ms. Russel satirizes a variety of different musical genres, including jazz, folk, opera and, of course, bagpipe music (which most would agree is in a class of its own). Of the five tracks on the CD, other reviewers have identified "Backwards With the Folk Song" and Verdi's imaginary opera, "Hamletto", as highlights.
