I suppose it figures that, when putting this volume together for their vast 16 Most Requested Songs series, the folks at Columbia would zero in primarily on songs made famous on Broadway. Not all of them by Robert Goulet, mind you, but seldom done better by anyone else. Looking through the many volumes in the series, however, what I would like to know is, how exactly did they arrive at what they consider to be the artist's 16 Most Requested? Take Robert Goulet for example, a man who had 15 charted hit singles from 1962 to 1969 (even though that wasn't his focus over the years, but for some reason just three of those hits are included here. If you follow my reviews you will find that I enjoy newer, less classical musicals usually. HOWEVER, Camelot was certainly a fine listen. The songs are enjoyable and give a nice outline of the show, the singers are pleasant, the lyrics are pleasing and clever. While listening to the two recordings of Camelot I own, I decided that the Camelot: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1967 Film) 1967 recording is better than this one. I came to this conclusion because the singers on that album have more personality which makes the show more real for the listener. I am in no way saying this 1960 isn't good, that one is just better. Fav song: "If Ever I Should Leave You"

On paper this sounded like a dynamite idea. And given the talent involved, it should have ended up that way. The great Doris Day was ideal to play Annie. But alas, this is not one of her finest vocal performances. While she does extraordinary work on the beautiful ballads here, the comedy numbers fall very flat. Her timing and vocal mastery are simply not there on those numbers. They actually sound more like early rehearsals than final takes. In fact, one part of "Anything You Can Do" is simply unlistenable to me. Oddly, her vocals were recorded first, then the orchestrations were recorded later, and it shows. It just doesn't "gel" in the way it would if all parties had been present at once, or even if she had been singing to the orchestral playback, as was common at the time. Read More

Robert Goulet, my favorite Vocalist! The CD On Broadway/On Broadway Vol.2 is one of my Favorite Albums Ever. It is Easy listening, and very entertaining. Love this Album, and Love Robert Goulet!

I saw Robert Goulet in CAMELOT on Broadway when I was 14. My dad brought home the "Always You" LP -- and it was love from then on. I saw him in concert in Atlanta -- for one week, every night as I apprenticed at Theatre Under the Stars and he sang "Georgia, Georgia -- where on a clear day..." in the wings -- to me! I was 18 -- what can I say? I still have the LP, but glad to have the CD -- it's a great way to remember him.
