When I was a child in the late 50's and 60's, the evening meal was eaten at the dining table, with the whole family gathered together. We always had music playing ... usually Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. This great collection of Arthur Fiedler's works includes many of Fiedler's favorites, but also many of my family's favorites, too. I have my entire CD collection in ITunes, and added this compilation to the others. I now have over 16 Fiedler CD collections, which total over 28 CD's. I loved the song "A New Day" after hearing it on the radio. I tracked it down and ordered the CD. All the songs are terrific.

The Ensemble de Organographia has done it again, successfully reconstructing surviving ancient Musical pieces from Greece. (Their other album covered Sumeria, Egypt and Greece.) As I stated in my review of their other CD, I'm a student of classical (i.e. ancient) Chinese music (which unlike Western music managed to survive virtually intact...to the point where Chinese musicologist/archaeologists can even play surviving ancient songs on Bronze age instruments excavated from tombs.) The Ancient Chinese scale is remarkably similar to the Greek scale. It has basically five notes: Do, Re, Me, So, and La. I brought this to my little granddaughter for her FIRST Birthday. I was babysitting her for 8 days during my visit, and we listened to it together everyday. We both loved it. I played it every morning and afternoon when she got fussy and tired. It worked wonderfully to soothe her to sleep,and it made our cuddletime even better because the music is very pretty and is played on real instruments. My daughter continues to play it, and she says it makes our little girl smile. I hope she's thinking about Gramma when she hears it.
