I had never heard of Ray LaMontagne before Amazon's recommendation engine pointed out to me that people frequently bought Martin Sexton's "Solo" along with "Gossip in the Grain." I'm a huge fan of Martin Sexton since about a year ago, and looking for more amazing folk/rock music to experience.

So I sampled a few tracks before downloading mp3s for "You are the Best Thing" and "Let It Be Me." Repeated playings of these tracks quickly lead to buying the rest. (And then regretting not buying the physical CD.) Love the whole album, listening to it many times the past couple of days, and now waiting eagerly for his first two albums to be delivered.

The songs really move me. Emotional, honest, real. Ray's voice is superb. "I Still Care For You" didn't click right away, ... Read More

I love this album. I love it in a way that makes it a soundtrack for those rainy nights when I want to do nothing else but stay in with the woman I love. This is a passionate album.

This is so good it hurts. I have listened to it over and over with rapt attention. The texture is rich, the poetry, thoughtful. The final five tracks create a beautiful sequence, particularly the couplets eight and nine and ten and eleven. Tracks ten and eleven form one song in two movements and create such a haunting experience that I was frightened on my first listening. I cannot recommend this high enough, and this is after a couple months of consistantly listening to this album. It is my favorite LaMontagne album thus far.

I thought this album was just so so. Ray is an excellent song writer, performer, musician. I think the albums production is pretty bad. It sounds really compressed. Live is hard to do but c'mon. Such a fantastic artist.. They really should have focused on the sound quality.

I am biased. I like anything Ray LaMontagne sings. To me, his stuff is soul, deep within and I can feel it.

I guess the most important point of this review is that this release is not just a "radio edit" of the song...it's a complete re-recording featuring more instruments and even some backing vocals. Somehow, though, it works...a very nice alternative to the original. Plus, it makes eating $10 much easier when you get TWO new songs instead of just one :) The cover of Gnars Barkley's "Crazy" is simply amazing...Ray's voice and interpretation of the song are both top notch. The lyrics really stand out...a compliment to GB and their songwriting. A highly recommended purchase!

Since discovering Ray Lamontange a year or so ago, I have been blown away by the depth of his lyrics and the emotions his instrumentals add to the mix. This 2 song CD is a great addition for those who have his other CD's or a suberb introduction for those who do not. While the acustic version is very good, the electric version will draw you into his world and his frustration with the priorities in our lives.

Very disappointed. As with the other reviewer, I to not only watched the series, but was an extra on several episodes during the filming here in NM. Although the CD was "inspired by the series" (and after listening to the songs, I think not), I was very disappointed and this cd should be placed in $1.00 CD bin at the music store. Wonder where the original music from the series is? It is certainly not on this CD. VERY MISLEADING.
