At 50 years of age this is my first Newman album. Great melodies, lyrics and singing. All beautifully arranged and performed. Very funny,very sad,sometimes both at the same time. Can someone recommend some more of his recordings?

Really enjoyed the movie, but didn't think I'd like the soundtrack as much. I was wrong, listened to it while driving from Los Angeles to San Diego and was singin' along with it the whole way!!

My family loves listening to this CD. We have numerous Disney music CD's and we listen to them constantly in the car. I would defintely recommend this to any Disney fan.

I waited for this edition as I will be going to NZ in February, '09. I like their format - I like that they use different writers and their candor. I like the PICKS where they explain why a particular restaurant or lodging was chosen. By their nature, these books can't be all enclusive so I use Trip Advisor as a more specific reference. Still it is excellent.

Leave it to composer Randy Newman to capture the essence of the Roaring Twenties in this wonderful movie soundtrack. The jazzy numbers marvelously fit the time when professional gridiron glory was making tentative strides in becoming as popular as the college game. Along with being the "Golden Age of Sports," the era was the "Jazz Age." Newman masterfully creates 20 numbers which depict those pop culture aspects of the 1920s.

I am just rediscovering the joys of listening to this artist. He is extrordinarily witty and real and that is something very lacking these days. This album is considered one of his finest, but I have about six of them now, and they are all just as good. Do not hesitate, this is worth every cent you pay.

you would have to buy dozens of individual soundtracks to include even some of the music here. slight adjustment to john williams (for example) originals but well performed. outstanding variety. use these cds to jump start your day with triumph!

I bought this enhanced edition thinking in would have more tracks ..actual songs...not so just a lot of verbal info from the artist about how the songs evolved ..really not what i was looking for!

Randy Newman of course never really had any hits, well not in the UK anyway. However this album from one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years really is something special. Not a compilation at all in fact, but complete re-recordings of some of his finest songs. Recorded with vocal and grand Piano only this is exactly how you should hear any great songwriter, whether they are playing the Piano or not. The combination of voice and Piano is unbeatable for letting you hear the beauty of the music. Now of course Randy Newman is a very good pianist, but he's an even better songwriter who manages by some quirk of fate to be blessed with the ability to write tender love songs, as well as satirical and ironic tales on American society and the world in general.
