among the best of the female vocal recordings i have heard; beautiful harmonies and a capella singing from the medieval era. This is serious, contemplative music that you sink into.

I am a musical novice. I was brought up listening to Pink Floyd, Santana, Joni Mitchell, and so on. I could not read music to save my life. Then someone introduced me to some Josquin Des Pres Rennaissance Polyphony - Missa L'homme arme sexti toni, Agnus Dei, to be specific - and I was totally hooked.

A few years later, someone introduced me to this CD, and I was even more taken. For some reason, I really like the Perotin-composed pieces - tracks 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9. The Beata viscera (track 8) is other-worldly, and quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my entire life!

You don't have to be a musical scholar to enjoy this - it's simply beautiful!

I came across this album while walking through the halls of the MET in Midtown. I walked home that night with the CD, I was 16 years or so. Now at 30, I still listen to this album regularly, and now put my kids to sleep with this album as part of a nightly mix of Officium, Tim Janis, and Thomas Otten...

All I needed to do was to hear a few of the sample clips of this CD, and then I knew I had to purchase it via Amazon's MP3 downloading program. The beautiful Gregorian Chants sound as if you are within a cathedral, such as Notre-Dame. The acoustics are eerie, and the echo of the chants give you a peaceful setting, whether you are in prayer, meditation, or simply wanting to feel the desire to be in church. The sound quality to these MP3's are the best that one can download to make a studio-sounding CD! Whether you buy it new, used, or via Amazon's MP3 downloading program, this is the BEST in choral, cathedral chanting. Get it now!

Music : Psallite!-Renaissance Christmas
This was the first CD of Chanticleer's that I ever purchased and I have been enamored with the group ever since. Especially from an all-male vocal ensemble, I was not expecting much in the way of the blend and tonality necessary for Renaissance music. Having sung in a high school Madrigal group with a conductor who received his Master's in Renaissance Music, I felt able to judge their quality. I was more than pleasantly surprised; I was dumbfounded at the capability of this group to effectively and correctly sing this style of music. Renaissance music is not one of the hardest forms of music to sing but singers typically treat it with such ease that they often sing it incorrectly. Chanticleer does an excellent job of conveying the text of what they are singing through their rich but delicate blend and uncanny ... Read More

First of all, the Kronos quartet is not
an early music group, nor they intend to
be one. The music here is of course re-
workings of works of early music. Despite
the fact of not being how this music
actually sounded like, it got me started
on my collection of music by Perotin. When
I first heard "Viderunt Omnes" by Perotin,
I knew that I had to hear how it actually sounded
like in its original form. This recording the
Kronos Quartet does a great job as they always do.
Again, this recording is not intended for the
serious early music fan, this is more or less
having "fun" with early music.
