I don't know opera. Last summer we had an incredible 20th anniversary trip to Italy. As a side trip from Venice, we planned a night in Verona. Neither my wife or I had been to an opera. Is this how its supposed to be... ...an incredible star filled night with a three quarter moon, the largest stage and outdoor theatrical production on the planet, all taking place in a roman colleseum (arena) built in 180 a.d., an incredible colorful set and production with a full symphony orchestra and voices that don't come easy. Excellent opera selections. Good range of different operas. The singers themselves are well known. Highly recommended to anyone getting into classical music.

Joan Sutherland is beyong doubt one of the greatest, if not the greatest voice I've ever heard. Her voice is so pure, perfect pitch, makes the hairs stand up on the back on your neck. All three of her CD's, which I bought to replace the old LP's I have. Worth every penny. I was lucky enough to see her live on many ocassions. Magnificent voice!!

She wasn't called La Stupenda by the Italians for nothing. Now retired, a truly great voice. I don't think I shall hear anything like her again. Worth every penny. Magnificent recording.

One of my favorite albums ever. A voice that will take your breath away. The more you listen, the more you will be speechless. Redefines operatic singing and sets a standard above the rest.

OperaD'Oro has issued a number of artistically excellent performances, however the technical quality is sometimes not up to today's standards. These (this CD is the first in a series of which there are currently 4 CDs) collections of excerts are of excellent technical and artistic quality. At the price, it is a real bargain.

The sound quality is worse than an old, scratched vinyl record. Music is boring and old. Extremely disappointing.

I bought that 2-CD set only for the extraordinary performance of Adele's "Laughing Song" ("Mein Herr Marquis") by Edita Gruberova. It is highly surprising (and inexcusable IMO) that a great label as Universal/Decca wrongly gives it to Kiri Te Kanawa, and that another great company (amazon) relays that big error on this site; the recording is quite recognizable (Gruberova can't be confused with anyone; and at her final, you can't confuse the particular audience of that live performance unable to refrain from blowing their stunning and applause before end), and you can check J. Strauss - Die Fledermaus / Te Kanawa, Gruberova, Fassbaender, Bär, Wiener Philharmoniker, Previn and search it, 1st for "Gruberova", 2nd for "Kanawa". Another track is, alone, worth buying the CD: Königin der Nacht's "Der hölle Rache kocht ... Read More
