The sumptuous tone that characterises Joshua Bell's CD provides what promises to be a brilliant listening experience. But for me there is a very fine line between sensitivity and sentimentality and too often he slithers over into unlovely swoops and slurs. Lush lyricism or sloppy sentiment? I don't think I will be listening to this CD very often but I will buy his interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Violin concerto which is a wonderful test of sensitivity v. sentimentality and see whether he will let the great composer speak.

There are just as many great sing alongs in this CD as in the first. Most of the tracks are very singable (the Brahms piece is difficult). Lots of fun and plenty of goofy lyrics.

I could simply say: MARVELOUS! it's so beautifully orchestrated and sung. The melodies are pretty, the story is fascinating and some songs are simply awesome. Do not hesitate and get this album before it goes out of print. It's a pity it didn't make it in Broadway, thus becoming one of the most beautiful losers of all times.

Good good CD with all Bach's greatest hits in good arrangements. The different songs give a good impression of Bach's great works.

This was nicely done all round. Voice/Music/arrangement. She has a clear sound with smooth verbrata.Some songs are very athletic. Especially "Glitter and be Gay". Those high notes must feel like her head is going to explode.This stays in my favorite section for musical (most of my collection is art songs).

When I purchased this CD, I was expecting something as perfect as the series of Brhams piano trios and quartets which are articulated around Isaac Stern (also at Sony). What a disapointment! The op 18 seems stretched to unbearable lengths, due to the used of extremly slow tempi. The allegro is not even moderato, the animato section (second theme of the cello, eg) is not animated... and so on. After 10 minutes of that, I was bored! Yes, the sound is beautiful, each line is well articulated, but it seemed to me this has nothing to do with the romantic and energetic work of a 25 year old Brahms! The syncopated rythm, which imparts the "swingy" feeling, was purposefully mollified. Same feeling with the third and fourth movement which is not at all grazioso... but sinister. Both concertos originated in the 1870's, the height of the second half of the romantic age. Lush orchestrations accompany virtuoso playing. The spirit of Russia is (unfortunately?) rather influenced by german standards in arrangements, but both these concertos are still quite an experience to listen to.
