This recording is not what it says it is. I put it in my computer CD player and the information on my monitor listed the performers as conductor Kent Nagano, tenor Jerry Hadley and others. I listened to the recording and the voice is clearly a tenor. Alan Titus is a baritone and Bernstein wrote the piece for a baritone. How can this be possible? I gave it one star but it deserves no stars.

Highly enjoyable version, although my personal preference is the Canadian version with Donny Osmond. The narrator in the London version is top notch as are the other cast members - well worth the money for all this listening pleasure

What I was looking for when I bought the CD was the remastered copy of the original album, the one that was played in coffeehouses all over the U.S. in the 70's. I still have the vinyl but it is too scratched to be a good candidate for ripping to the computer. This CD was not the same people, same notes, etc. I'm looking for a very specific recording and have thus far not been able to find it. I returned the CD after discovering that it was not at all what I wanted.

I loved Genesis back in the day. I heard one of the pieces from this cd tonight on the local classical station. Earthlight. At first I thought, this is okay, kind of lightweight, but okay. Then it began to shift in tone, melody: Vaughn Williams one minute, Claude Debussy the next ... no development, no reason for things to change ... kind of the worst aspect of new age music repeated over and over. I have no idea what Tony Banks involvement with the cd is ... but this music is just a bunch of pretty wanking ...

Of all the Broadway versions, this mix of traditional arrangements with a contemporary flair for staging is truly the one to collect if you you can only buy one. Bernadette Peters shines in My Turn. It is performed with the believable factor that Merman lacked.

Between Amazone, Ebay and Napster, I don't usually buy CDs anymore, and I usually wait till I can buy them cheaper "new and used". When this set came out, I was excited, mainly by Disc 5, but wasn't going to spend $70 on it. I waited till it was cheap enough, and got it for Father's day this year.
It was worth the wait.

The concept is great. The packaging is great. The recording is great. Disc five is really cool for an ALW aficionado. There are a few real gems on it; my favorites are Petula Clark's "I Could Have Given You More" and "Benedicite."
I've always thought "Gus the Theatre Cat" made a great medley on the piano with "Unexpected Song" and "I DOn't Know How to Love Him," but wished there was an alternate lyric to match the other two songs. Now that I know there *is*, and it's a good lyric, ... Read More

I still can't believe that this musical made it for the Tony as Best Musical. Most probably Miss Verdon was marvelous in the theatre production, but as this is an opinion for the soundtrack, I may say that I found it awfully boring and quite dissapointing. Once you listen to the album, it's difficult to remember one single tune since they simply respond to the most conventional clichés for a musical. I wouldn't recommend it except to fanatic collectors of Tony award winners.

The Cast is spectacular in the performaces. Maria Friedman and Jackline Dankworth truely act AND sing their way through this masterpiece. I marvel at how good the cast is in their respective roles. The Orchestration throughout the piece is exciting and engaging, capturing the jazzy nature of musical well. Sondhiem has ingeniously written the score with Reprises before the original song. The reverse order of the musical makes the lead character, Frank, more likable as the musical goes on because he starts a jaded (successful) adulterer. The advent of many motifs repeated throughout the piece make it fluid and understandable, though the musical is notoriously hard to understand. I really enjoyed both renditions of Not A Day Goes By, especially the pain and anger of Beth's song the first time and the love the second with Mary chiming in during ... Read More

Music : Bach Family Motets
SUPERB CHORAL PIECES BY SEVERAL MEMBERS OF BACH'S TALENTED FAMILY.
"The motets of the Bach family, as represented in this recording, thus create a precious legacy; one which it is hoped, will soon find the place in the choral repertoire they surely deserve." TIMOTHY BROWN

The Bach family was one of hardworking provincial craftsmen. music being its 'craft', passed down from one generation to the next, as was the name Johann.

England's excellent mixed voice Clare College Chapel choir in 1995, included such personages as countertenors Mark Chambers and Larry Zazzo. The choir performs on this recording eleven rarely-heard gems in their usual skilled and exciting manner. The sound of this group has always impressed me from the first note of a disc to the end. It is a rich resonant and very clear tone quality with ... Read More
