"Little Women" is, of course, a historical part of Americana. A novel that spawned a sequel, a stage adaption that was revived four times and played countless others by amateur theaters, three movies, two television mini-series, an opera, and now a Broadway musical. While each interpretation has stressed its own special aspect of the original story, all have been interesting and well received.
The first time I listened to this recording, I followed the libretto (included)and lived the story as the music played. Today I listened again without benefit of the printed page, and found the music just as enjoyable as before. At some points, the story line did not come through perfectly; but vignettes stood out as I listened--especially the "meller-drammers" of Jo's vivid imagination.

Maureen McGovern's newest, A long and Winding Road, is exactly what I would expect from this exceptional artist. I grew up in the seventies and actually found the music to be un-listenable. Now, along comes this CD and Ms. McGovern's vocals make them into glorious songs. Her clarity, diction, control, and range are there with the best of all-time female vocalists. One could not buy a better collection of 60's and 70's songs sung by one of the finest singers of our time. Obviously, I'm a fan.

Most people only know Maureen McGovern as the singer of popular disaster movie themes, but there is so much more to this elegant lady. While I am a big fan of her later cabaret work, these early recordings, very hard to find on CD prior to this release, are amazing. Her crystal clear, powerful vocals leave the listener waiting for more and there are songs by such notable tunesmiths as Randy Edelman, John Williams, Paul Williams and Roger Nichols on this collection. Very highly recommended.

This was a great buy for me. The power and accuracy of Placido's voice are demonstrated well. Two CD's and 34 songs--just can't beat that for the price.

Music : Christmas with Maureen McGovern
Maureen just has an incredible instrument period!...And her voice was just made for these Christmas songs. If you have this album and Kathleen Battle's Christmas album with the Harlem Boy's Choir...You're covered!...No need for any other Christmas albums as Maureen covers the jazzy/pop songs and Kathleen the classical...you will be sneaking a listen in the middle of July with this album...Terrific!

Maureen McGovern - Greatest Hits is yet another mediocre and somewhat disappointing CD that purports to give us the "greatest hits" of Maureen McGovern. Unfortunately, we don't get enough of her great songs on this CD. Sure, the songs that we do get are wonderful; but it just isn't long enough to be a legitimate "greatest hits" collection. They could have--and should have--included at least a couple more songs on this disc. That's Curb Records for you! The quality of the sound, however, is very, very good although the artwork is just about par for this CD series.

The CD starts with one of Maureen's best song ever, "The Morning After;" this, as you probably know, comes from the movie The Poseidon Adventure. Maureen sings this with all her heart and soul; and just one listen proves it. The strings are used to great advantage ... Read More

What a great CD. The songs written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman are brilliant as is Miss McGovern's interpretations. As a collector of Bergman lyrics, this is the best collection I have run across.
Interpretation and sidemen are important and Maureen covers both those issues well in the CD. She has chosen great selections from the Bergman songbook.
She is backed by great musicians such as Tom Scott who opens the CD with some great saxophone work on one of the great songs of our time "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" and Gary Burton who plays some beautiful riffs on "Make Me Rainbows".
The beautifully "intelligent" lyrics ( as Grusin says in his brief note on the CD)are beautifully sung by Miss McGovern.
Perhaps my favorite CD ever.
BTW, Miss McGovern is outstanding in concert as well.
