I love Martina and her original White Christmas. I would give the original 4 stars and not 5 because I think there are a couple of female artist that are just a little better in their Christmas albums. That is my personal taste and her original is a great album. I gave this 3rd release 2 stars because I think the value of this album to Martina fan's is low. I purchased the previous 2. With this one my total investment is around $40. Paying Amazons $14 for 4 new songs makes this a 2 star album. I understand RCA is in a business to make money and they have the right to release this a hundred times if they choose. I still love Martina and will continue to buy her music. Martina McBride has to be one of the most powerful voices in the music business. This woman can give me goose bumps because is so awesome! She is labeled as country but anybody that appreciates music and talent will see what I mean. She is right up there with Whitney Houston Celine Dion, Mirah Carey. I don't necessarily like all of their music but you'd have to be a fool not to get chills while listening! Listen to the words, they tell stories, real life, look beyond the music, just listen. Independence Day is one of these songs. If you are skeptical, this would be the album for you to buy. Trust me it's worth it you won't be dissapointed unless you can't appreciate true talent. I think she should sing the national anthem at the superbowl!!!

Let me preface this by saying that this was the first Martina McBride album I ever bought. I have since bought a few of her earlier albums. 'Waking Up Laughing' is an album that is very pleasant and endearing to listen to over-all, but in spots the lyrics are downright clutsy. I am not quite sure why some country artists feel the need to reaffirm their faith in God in songs to the general public--can't we figure that out for ourselves? She is sweet and she is good and all that but somehow I can't get around the fact that she has to spell that out so often. Martina works the same sort of material, in the same vein as Patty Loveless, but Patty did it in a way that does not make you feel below her-- she's just one of us. This is a great DVD of Martina live in concert. She is adorable how can anyone not love her? Not only do you get to watch her sing 20 songs live, but you also get to watch a bit of her fun and playful personality which you don't often get a chance to see. The only downside to this, and the reason I gave this package deal four stars instead of five was due to the CD. There are only eight songs on the CD version, which is a bit disappointing. Had they put four or five more tracks on the Live CD it would have been superb. With only eight tracks it's just too short. Even so, this is still a great chance to see Martina live concert with one of the best seats in the house. This collection of cover songs is such a welcome change of direction from Martina, who always tends to ride the country/pop fence. Martina does a great job of breathing new air into old classics. If you enjoyed the original recordings of these songs, you should enjoy this album. My favorite off of this album is her remake of Sammi Smith's "Help Me Make It Through the Night."
