Well written, solid tracks front to back...some hard hitting, some a little softer...from a great under exposed band. Worth the 6 bucks to download, or check out "Until the end (believing)" for something a little harder or "The Last"...a little softer track "Ouroboros" also solid but a bit more mellow...

This cd is generally very very nice. I think this is only my 2nd cd with Marais music on it so I was interested to see if it was as good as the Marais stuff on Jordi Savall's Tous les Matins du Monde. I would say that I liked it about as much as that cd, except for the Couplets de Folies. On that track I thought the viol was too low in the mix. It wasn't "front and centre" like it is in Savall's version. Of the rest of the pieces on the disc the D major suite (tracks 5-10) is definitely my favourite; it's mostly slow & simltaneously happy & sad somehow. I think the other two suites are almost as good.

I would like to say, all the Sin Bad Summer Jam/Soul Music Festival's were off the chain. I had the chance to watch all HBO Special's on TV. I recorded all but 1. I'll be so happy whenever they release them on dvd. My Sister was all over the camera when they were in Aruba.
Please!!! Please!!! Or at least someone address the situation of why they can't be put on dvd.
Thank you!

The Mackerras/Telarc has been praised incessantly ever since its release. I understand the praise very well; still, I wouldn't want to be without my other Gilbert & Sullivan recordings of these operas.

(After being a G&S nut a while, you start to think of the operas chronologically, so that is how I will cover them. I will start with commendations of these recordings and drift into any minor criticism necessary.)

Trial by Jury:

This is my favorite of the Mac/Tel series. The casting is wonderful, with the possible exception of the Usher, who, though a fine singer, doesn't seem to like the E's he has to reach. (He isn't bad at all, but after hearing Donald Adams and Owan Brannigan in the role, it is difficult not to say something.) Richard Suart indulges ... Read More
