What can be said about the most beautiful and exciting cellist playing the most beautiful music selection perfectly recorded. I laughed, I cried and above all I wished she was around today. The angels turned in their harps for cellos.

this cd demonstrates the fabulous technique that perlman has. he is truly a master of the violin and makes it sing. it is a total pleasure to listen to this cd many times.

I come to this review with great heart-felt enthusiasm to nudge you a little to purchase this Stirring Album to feed your inner soul that is hungering for deeply moving music for trumpet and organ. I purchased this album years ago, now, but do, in truth, come back to it very often for the soul stirring that only the trumpet can give you. While I (and probably many) normally do not think about the trumpet (or brass at all, for that matter) very much, it is, truly, lovely, filling sound that stirs one like no other type of instrument(s). I am not an expert in classical music, but have always loved the string instruments. I bought this CD for relaxation (as the title implies) and to help me focus on writing a thesis. I was torn between this CD and the Cello for Relaxation. I am pleased with my choice. My favorites are track #2 and #10 (listen to the samples through Amazon) - I usually play these two on repeat. My least favorite is track #7 because it sounds like a piano dominated movie soundtrack. Although I wish I could have exchanged some of the tracks for others, I think this CD was worth the money and is a nice mix for those of us who don't know specific composers by name or who want a good sampling.

The number of stars won't say anything about Hassid's playing. His heritage consists of these few tracks but those 8 pieces stand as a reference and the Beauty that speaks through his violin, is the size of Universe. Words are powerless to describe what makes Hassid's voice so speaking, so organic, so effortless and so true. The violin speaks with such simplicity that it touches deeply. At this point, virtuosity does not describe Hassid's art. There is not an inflection of the bow that is meaningless or just a filler. Everything is meaningful, natural and intelligent. This is an excellent value. Four of the greatest violinists in history captured in some of their best repertoire. The first CD is devoted to Ruggiero Ricci. He plays stunning versions of the Mendelssohn and Bruch No. 1 Concerti. It is an early stereo recording from the mid-1950's, and the sound of the orchestra is somewhat dim, but Ricci's playing carries all before it. Two popular Saint-Saens works complete the CD, in better sound. George Mendelssohn Bartholdy said to me that Ricci was as good as Heifetz, but he looks like a gnome. I don't know if that explains his career, but his playing on this disc is everything one could desire. Henryk Szeryng plays Mozart's 3rd through 5th concertos on the second disc, with a rich tone and moderate tempos, backed by the excellent support of the New Philharmonia conducted by ... Read More
