There are not many things in life that I would describe as just Gorgeous -- but this album is definitely one of them. The selections, the arrangements, the production quality, all are clean, yet lush -- simultaneously light and rich. The effect is wonderful. This may not appeal to hardest-core periodists, but for beautiful music lovingly performed, the album is very hard to beat. Not only rocketted to the top of my favorite holiday album list - it is already high on my favorite all-time list. It will NOT be getting put away with the rest of the Christmas albums. Year-round keeper!

It's easy to think that the culture is in decline (mostly because it is), but Wynton is proof that we are not done for yet. He is the real thing, whether you like classical or jazz or whatever. He is a master. I love this recording of some very familiar pieces, recorded here by a real virtuoso. Just as we were getting used to mediocrity, Wynton comes along and reminds us all that perfection is worth pursuing despite our teachers' insistence that we can feel good about ourselves no matter what we do. Here is the personification of artistry and the claim that greatness is worth pursuing and is achievable.

QUALITY AND QUANTITY COMBINE IN THIS VERY FINE COMPILATION! This is indeed one of the most tasty group of Christmas songs that I have come across in my many years of listening. It leans toward sacred, but there are tunes such 'White Christmas' sung beautifully by Thomas Hampson and a Brass Choir plays a Medley of songs such as Sleigh ride, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas etc. In addition to the many choirs there are instrumental groups that not only accompany, but solo occasionally. I haven't heard anything yet from Marc Antoine that I didn't like. He continues to make me happy with his music!

A two star reviewer complained that this CD is not for the purist! Fair enough. Wynton Marsalis is one of the leading jazz trumpeters over the last 30 years and has far more jazz material released than classical. If we can tolerate Benny Goodman playing Mozart Clarinet Concertos, we should be able to cut Mr. Marsalis some slack too! This CD showcases the playing of Marsalis and his take on some of the great Baroque classics. It is not meant to be a pure as snow period instrument performance! If it is not pure enough for you, just think of it as being in the style of Baroque and relax a little and enjoy the music. There is much to be enjoyed from track one until the end of this great CD! I enjoy all of Rebecca Luker's albums, and this Aria series does not disappoint. It's soothing and relaxing, and her voice is, of course, lovely.
