I am returning the defective product today. The factory sealed jewel box contained two copies of disc 2. It was missing disc 1. Ergo, this is a USELESS product. I was totally unable to address this issue via your web site ... a major demerit against shopping with Amazon ever again. Please look out for this returned c.d., and when you send me a replacement, be 100% sure that it too is not defective, or that will be "it!"

Sunday in the Park with George is one of Sondheim's top 3 shows, and the score one of the greatest written of all time. A great quality of the show, definitively preserved by the OBC album, is its value of repeat viewing.

Initially, "Children and Art", "Move On", "We Do Not Belong Together" and in parts the title song are among the most memorable numbers with Bernadette Peters' heart wrenching vibrato and Sondheim's melodies. Even Mandy Patinkin whose falsetto can be hard for some to swallow has his moments in "Beautiful" and "Lesson #8". And of course, who could forget "Sunday" with its choral brilliance. There are so many memorable songs, in fact, that it's hard for me not to just list them all.

It is important to have seen the show as the sheer complexity of the score ... Read More

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes.
As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET
PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN...
But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's
"Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...

Interesting compilation of Sondheim ballads with a great variety of artists - from the incomparable Cleo Laine and Barbara Cook to singers you've never heard of who are equally impressive.

I sent this CD to my parents and they love it! It is nice to preview the songs on-line instead of with greasy headphones in a music store! The shipping is always speedy and makes sending gifts across the country so much easier.

This CD was a gift to a friend that had never heard Mandy sing.
She thought that he was an actor only and new him through
The Princess Bride and Yentyl. She is quite sheltered living in a very small town with one theater, only a couple of tv channels, and three
restaurants.
She is now a Mandy fan and loved the recording and his interpretation
of the songs he sings. She was so enthused that she bought Evita
and Bernstein's New York, which I recommended. Loves them both.
He is a gifted artist and since I have seen him five times on stage in concert I always look forward to seeing him again and again.

Should be a classic. Forget the arguments about what Yiddish is supposed to be, how to speak it, where, etc. Yiddish speakers have tried to kill it by being language commandos but it lives on. Pantinkin is great as usual, and the track Rebbe Elimelech should become a classic alongside Aaron Lebedeff's
Romania. You will love this album.

If I had to limit myself to only two recorded performances as proof of Stephen Sondheim's genius, this would be one of them, with the original cast album of "A Little Night Music" being the other.

And this is with the admission that every recording of each of these shows over the years has value and has added to our appreciation of America's greatest living composer for the Broadway stage, Stephen Sondheim. And it is also with the understanding that these two shows are but the best representation of Sondheim's art.

So, there you ares, the two best recordings, respectively, of the two shows which I feel best represent that seemingly bottomless well of creation Mr. Sondheim seems to draw upon.

The recording in question here is not only technically without peer, it effuses the joy so often missing from ... Read More

Mandy Patinkin's CD "Experiment" is just that, an experiment in voice production and creative presentation. I was not aware of Mr. Patinkin's vocal ability until after he left the TV production, Criminal Minds. His ability to sing from falsetto to strong baritone is wonderful. If you are into a different sound of famous and not so famous songs produced from a different sound, this is a CD to enjoy.

"Man of La Mancha" is my favorite musical. It has a wonderful message and gives people a lot to think and talk about. The music is also very, very good and can withstand a variety of styles and interpretations. This operatic version features the outstanding Placido Domingo who, I feel, brings an authenticity to the role, perhaps because of his own Spanish nationality and background. This version is quite different from the musical, but still very nice. The fiery Julia Migenes is also a very appropriatly sexy, vet vulnerable Aldonza/Dulcinea.

Comparisons: Original Broadway Version; Movie version, Brian Stokes Mitchell as Don Quixote; Jim Nabors as Don Qixote; Jacques Brel as Don Quixote (French version)
