Listening to the Vienna Boys' Choir has always moved me, but when I heard this CD I was thoroughly appalled! I couldn't believe it! What happened to the Choir?! The 'Vienna Boys' are supposed to sing like angels. They were never meant to sing this way. It's not just how well they sing that gives them their fame - it's also what they sing. They completely degraded the boys in the making of this CD. It's really very sad!

Between Amazone, Ebay and Napster, I don't usually buy CDs anymore, and I usually wait till I can buy them cheaper "new and used". When this set came out, I was excited, mainly by Disc 5, but wasn't going to spend $70 on it. I waited till it was cheap enough, and got it for Father's day this year.
It was worth the wait.

The concept is great. The packaging is great. The recording is great. Disc five is really cool for an ALW aficionado. There are a few real gems on it; my favorites are Petula Clark's "I Could Have Given You More" and "Benedicite."
I've always thought "Gus the Theatre Cat" made a great medley on the piano with "Unexpected Song" and "I DOn't Know How to Love Him," but wished there was an alternate lyric to match the other two songs. Now that I know ... Read More

I love Madonna's music.

Even though she changes direction so often with both her sound and image,I ALWAYS buy her album without even reading reviews or listening to previews because I can almost GURANTEE I will love it(and you shouldn't listen to reviews all the time because the critics seemed to hate American life, but I personally think it is some of Madonna's best and most personal work).

And despite owning ALL of Madonna's albums...

I am NOT a crazy Madonna fan,who just blindly worships her like some idol.

I don't think she has anything close to one of the 'best' or 'strongest' voices in the music industry but I do think she has an incredibly versatile voice that seems to suit whatever she sings well.

True Blue is ONE of my ... Read More

Out of all the Madonna maxi-singles I own, this is the one I keep going back to. This is her best. Usually with a maxi you get a couple of good mixes. In this one, they are all good. Recommended to all Madonna fans.

I bought this hoping for club mixes, and I was very disappointed. They are slow RnB type mixes. The plus side is that if you own the Japanes version of this single (I do) you get instrumental versions of all the mixes as well.

It has the same tracks as the cd single version, so don't expect anything new.
The Junkie XL remix is the best, imo. The rebirth remix and Peter saves Paris are very, very good also... if you like progressive music.
It's a good vynil for your collection, altough i thought afterwards I should have better bought the white version of it.
I rated it 4 stars because of the great mixes of a good song... but for a first single... honestly, she could have done better.

madonna is the queen of pop! and the biggest selling female artist of all time!
shep pettibone was the most-sought after remixer of the 80's...

before the two collaborated in "vogue" in 1990, shep was remixing most the songs of madonna, starting with 1986' true blue!

when madonna released the album and single "like a prayer" critics praised both song and album as the artist's "most serious undertaking" in her career...

with the controversial video accompaying the spirutally-vague track, shep was able to remix the song, enhance it and bring out its hidden beauty! voila! madonna's 12-inch remix of like a prayer is yet to be equalled by remixers and composers alike. while the madonna of the 90's and the millennium are great, this 1989 classic remains a special collaboration ... When the 1980s commenced and Disco's Demise had taken place, there were really two things that occurred. The first is that many of the styles and concepts of Disco had begun to incorporate into the Pop music landscape and had begun to influence some of the more mainstream genres. The other is that for all practical purposes, Disco had not vanished - but in actuality would go "underground". Disco would still exist, but in reality had morphed into what became the "80s Dance Movement". As with many "underground" music genres, the "80s Dance Movement" would soon rise to the surface. One artist who must get some major credit for bringing the "80s Dance Movement" to the back to the surface was Madonna. Madonna's debut album "Madonna" clearly would be the album that would play a role in bringing this "underground" ... Read More

I suspect that most people are going to discover this album, like I did, trying to complete collections of songs by their favorite artists. I was a Cracker and Sparklehorse fan which led me to this album. Now arguably I am a much bigger Vic Chesnutt fan than I am of either of those bands. In fact the Cracker and Sparklehorse covers on this album aren't all that great. I give this album 4 stars because the songs are all VC classics and should be heard by those unfamiliar with his work, but inevitably the covers are of hit-and-miss quality. On the weak side are the Hootie cover of "Gravity of the Situation", and the Smashing Pumpkins cover of "Sad Peter Pan", which really pale to the original upon repeated listening to both. Those are two VC classics that probably no one could cover successfully. On a positive note, the Dog's Eye View, ... Read More
