Madonna's poorly received "American Life" CD yielded only one minor hit - the title track peaked at #37 on Billboard's Hot 100. Nevertheless, several other singles were released. "Nothing Fails" was Madonna's third single from the CD, and it followed "Hollywood" as only the second in Madonna's long career to fail to chart on the Hot 100. What a pity, as "Nothing Fails" is one of the highlights of the "American Life" CD. The original version of "Nothing Fails" begins with Madonna cooing, "I'm in love with you - you silly thing. Anyone can see." The sentiment is sweet, and it's been suggested that she wrote it about meeting hubby, Guy Ritchie. Supreme Court need to unanimously agree on a "National Resolution to Preserve the Brain of 'Madonna' Chiccione," the same as the brain of Albert Einstein, as a National Treasure, and for the sake of future scientific study. Ok here's yet another rant from a single I have bought and was very disappointed. Sure Frozen and Ashanti are great tracks. There is no argument there, but why pay for a single when you can buy the whole album?? For me this is very frustrating. Maybe people here are thinking this is the album, but then again Ray of Light is the Album, which this is from. Is it not?? I will certainly be trying to pawn this cd off to someone cause it is useless to me. As an aspiring dj, I am looking for quality remixes that can be played in clubs and stand the test of time. The usual song has been played out by radios, so it is important that it is kept fresh with a good mix. I just can't understand why record companies put out these singles that offer nothing different ... Read More

While there are no remixes of Secret on this cd, it is worth it for the B-Side Let Down Your Guard. Let Down your guard is a sultry r&b song that unfortunately didn't make it on to the album Bedtime Stories. Cd includes Secret Edit, LP version, instrumental, and Let Down Your Guard. The remixes are worth buying as well for Junior's mixes! Check them out!

i agree with the reviewers. a madonna fan should have this one. your collection is not complete without "in the beginning" or "pre-madonna" or "beginnings 1980-1981." actually, these are all the same album, 9 (or 10) tracks recorded before she was able to ink a deal with sire records in 1982. madonna and her friend stepehen bray recorded these demos and presented them to record producers but were turned down (and look who's laughing now!). yes, this is the real thing - not the trashy otto von wernher (whatever) songs that could have been curious collections if otto did not dip his finger in the original versions. in this cd, stephen tells the story of madonna in his own perspective and how they were able to collect such a body of work. not just for the curious ones, this album ... I suspect that most people are going to discover this album, like I did, trying to complete collections of songs by their favorite artists. I was a Cracker and Sparklehorse fan which led me to this album. Now arguably I am a much bigger Vic Chesnutt fan than I am of either of those bands. In fact the Cracker and Sparklehorse covers on this album aren't all that great. I give this album 4 stars because the songs are all VC classics and should be heard by those unfamiliar with his work, but inevitably the covers are of hit-and-miss quality. On the weak side are the Hootie cover of "Gravity of the Situation", and the Smashing Pumpkins cover of "Sad Peter Pan", which really pale to the original upon repeated listening to both. Those are two VC classics that probably no one could cover successfully. On a positive ... Read More

This has to be one of the rarest CD Albums by Madonna, initially only for promotion, was then released commercially ONLY in Germany and the USA. Some copies did circulate to other countries via importing. Beautiful 3D cover that will take your breath away, compliments the actual contents of the CD - one of Madonna's best albums - EVER.
