Although entitled "Guitar Masterpieces" the music is MOSTLY big band with some guitar lead. This CD does not feature the guitar. Very disappointing.....

I bought this because I love to listen to cellos. On my Mark&Daniels, the sound is first rate, overall. ButI would have loved to have the cello given a bit more prominence, audio-wise. The accompanying instruments are aggressive enough to drown the cello out in the musical pictures, except for the first selection which is just fabulous.

I love the music from this movie. It has lots of great violin, cello, and orchestral tracks. The soundtrack feels complete with lots of variety and plenty of listening time. Highly recommend!

Du Pre was, and will unsupassed by contemporary cellists for generations. She is still the best, and will be remembered by many forever.

These are bad times for the world at large - as I write, the US financial system is threatening a giant systemic collapse, the US are mired in Irak and Afghanistan, with Russia occupying half of Georgia a new Cold War is looming large, Chinese babies are dying by the hundreds from poisoned milk, Iran and Korea won't be stopped from becoming nuke, and Paris Hilton is off her medication again - but these are great times for the music lovers and buyers of CDs (are there many of these left?). Now EMI is releasing these gigantic boxes with the complete EMI recordings of such and such, and at prices so low they are tantamount to steals. This one cost me less than 3 dollars per CD, postage included, and it's even cheaper now on the marketplace, three months later. A complete Karajan is out (88 + 72 CDs ... Read More

Elegant, soothing and graceful. I recently moved into a work-at-home situation and had to get away from my rock-and-roll standards if I were to get any work done. I find the rich sounds of this album perfect for me. It isn't distracting and seems to steer my creative energies effortlessly. I love it.

I bought these (both CD's) simply to play while reading the Aubrey series. Did it help...yes! I not only enjoyed having the music in the background, it put me more in the mood. The music was great. The series, even more awesome knowing the Doc and the Captain might be playing while I was reading...

I own both Simply Baroque and Simply Baroque II. I think both offer the listener a truly beautiful listening experience. Yo Yo Ma and Tom Koopman have created magic here. The recording is crystal clear and the music... it's just incredible. I find myself relaxed, involved, immersed - a part of the music itself. How often does this happen? If you enjoy music that moves you body and soul, you really owe it to yourself to purchase both of these Cds.
