I'm of an age such that I was growing up (early adolescence) when most of Led Zeppelin's albums were released; they (along with many other "giants" of that era) provided the soundtrack to my life during the mid- to late-'70s.

I've had two or three of the albums on LP or cassette, but never got the whole series, start to finish, until a year or so ago. I don't have top-of-the line audio equipment, so the issues mentioned elsewhere don't affect me as much, though I'll take that into account should I ever get a high-end system. The sound in this set suits me fine, and I find that it actually sounds just as good in the car (I try to keep the windows up in that case! Don't want to lose any of that Led Zep BOOM!) as it does inside my house.

Until there's a complete set on ... Read More

Dear friends,

This is the best Led Zeppelin vynil pressing EVER! The sound is amazing making us wondering how other vynil records are pressed... - The masters are the same!
The theme selection is the same as the other 2 previous compilations but with this one we have the whole group playing just in front of us with the perfect space between the players!!! The mastering is better than we could possibly imagine! It seems that the band was recorded with today's state of art equipment. Is a unique experience. Congratulations.

purchased this in vinyl format when at first release. Saw the show at Madision Sq Garden both nights, "Song Remains the Same". If you love Led Zepplin then the remastered version is one for your collection. I'm glad Jimmy Page gave his blessing on the remix. Well done all around.....

For those of you out there who think that John Paul Jones was the most talented member of the Zeppelin - and yes, I am one of those people - you need to listen to this album as fast as possible. The bass playing here is his best ever, I think. I'd hesitate to call the album brilliant, but it's pretty close. I want to say this is my second favorite Zeppelin album after Houses of the Holy, but as I've said in previous reviews, Zeppelin's first four albums are all more or less equally good.
And hey, how about those bass lines? On the dirty blues jam "Lemon Song" and the half-ballad, half-rockers "What is and What Should Never Be" (which also is Plant at his best - his vocals are sensual, and his ad-libbing during the fadeout is incredibly charismatic) and "Ramble On" (which is my favorite song ... This is undoubtably one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Every song is a classic. The only reason for 4 stars is a bad mix on "How Many More Times". One track is missing which is lead from Jimmy - a serious omission in my opinion. Makes potentially the best song on the album incomplete.

Houses of The Holy is just...one of those albums. One of those albums that everyone seems to like and I just cannot figure out why. It is pretty much split between good and startlingly bad, and for a Led Zeppelin album this is about as bad as it gets in the early career. But with that said, the album still has a nice selection of good songs. The Song Remains the Same is an interesting ethnic epic that does it's job pretty well, but Robert Plant falters here, like he does on most of the album. The Rain Song and Over the Hills and Far Away are two of Led Zep's absolute best acoustic moments and are priceless treasures that haven't aged a bit unlike their predecessor. The Crunge is usually cited as being the albums worst track, but in actuality, it is pretty awesome although perhaps unessential. The next ... Read More

Led Zep's 3rd album continued the epic rise of the mighty band but was seen at the time as a slowdown because of its strange diversions and acoustic numbers. In reality, it showcased a different identity for the band and provided a nice contrast to their previous albums by not being a pure rock album.

The album's predecessor - Led Zep II had been recorded in spurts while the band was on tour and though powerful, was uneven in parts.

In contrast, Led Zeppelin III was a lot more focussed and sophisticated in production. A very nice album indeed. Although it gets the least play on my Zep list, the ideas here would define the group's sonic and acoustic inventiveness; and their love of light and shade.

Page unleashes the full fury of Zep on "Immigrant Song" and then ... Read More

For years I enjoyed the Jimmy Page box set versions of these tunes and thought the sound quality was pretty darn good. A couple years ago shortly after classic records announced they would stop pressing the catalog, I scooped up as many as the vinyl versions as I could, namely 'The Song Remains the same.' The CDs in this mini-LP set are the closest to that 'classic records' sound as I have heard thus far, and I am a vinylphile. I am fully satisfied with the sound. TSRTS is absolutely fantastic ( I haven't heard the recent warner re-issue yet ). The purposefully distorted and fat sound of the organ from No Quarter remains swirling in my mind while writing this review. This ain't the 1993 version of these songs and the packaging is an outstanding reproduction of the original. Do yourself a favor.... buy It!

I often tell people the only two things everybody needs is a Bible and a copy of the Led Zeppelin Box Set. Remastered and compiled by Page himself, the sound quality is phenomenal. He was such a great producer in the first place that with modern remastering, the songs sound like they were recorded now. And the song selection and ordering is just right. A die hard Zep fan would want some more, but theres enough here to get all but one radio hit, and help broaden ones focus to some of the better album tracks. I don't really consider Led Zeppelin my personal favorite, but I consider them the most important if not best rock band of all time (my apologies to the Beatles and Stones), and this is the definitive collection.
