The Fountain was described to me as a piece of artwork filled with perceptions and beautiful art direction. However, no one even told me the exceptional music that played an instrumental role in creating a feel for this movie that made me tingle.
Clint Mansell is truly an amazing composer and a master in his field, I have enjoyed many of his work in many movies such as smoking aces and requiem of a dream! You have to give it all a listen.

After hearing this score, I felt like throwing up. Almost all of it is pointless electronic garbage. One 20-second-long track is actually just three slow, electronic beeps played one after the other. I felt nothing after hearing this soundtrack. The only tracks on this album that are worth listening to are the overtures. But even they are boring; each one uses the same dreary theme over again. It starts to sound like the composer Clint Mansell is on the same drugs that characters in the movie use. Only get this soundtrack if you love techno/electronica music. Clint Mansell's effort to be original for this soundtrack failed horribly. Don't waste your money.

If this CD has made this fantastic quartet known to a larger number of people, then, it's fine. But what a desappointment in terms of music ! A few interresting songs, but i can't feel any great inspiration in this commercial CD poorly surfing on the ethnic wave. A shame.

"This project by pipa player Wu Man and the untiringly eclectic string quartet Kronos continues a collaboration that began more than a decade ago, when they recorded Ghost Opera.."(The Guardian).
Once again the Kronos, the hippest string quartet on the planet, has teamed up with its favourite composer, Terry Riley, the man who brought '60s hippieness into classical music. The original minimalists are now old men.
Riley, turned 70 in 2005 and to mark the occasion the Kronos Quartet commissioned a new work from him.
In this six-movement "mid-summer rite", there's a prominent solo role for the jangling Chinese lute, or pipa, played by the wonderful Wu Man - who also sings Chinese lullabies - against the astringent, urgent ensemble sound that Kronos applies to everything from Africa to ... Read More

I have been a fan of Kronos Quartet since the early 90s. Pieces of Africa, Night Prayers, and Henryk Górecki: Already It Is Dusk (String Quartet No. 1, Op. 62)/ Quasi una Fantasia (String Quartet No. 2, Op. 64) are among my favorite. But Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass, is the most rejoicing, ironically festive and beautifully composed cd by them.

I purchased Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass when it was first released back in February 1995. Up here in Vermont, early February still means the dead of winter. I recall listening to Kronos Quartet Performs Philip Glass incessantly during that winter season, particularly on my long drives between school, work and home. I certainly still attribute this cd to sunny, but cold winter days, meandering through nameless roads. In fact, I'm not sure I ... Read More

I just got this CD, and it's one of the best I've heard in a long time. A wonderful sample of world music, and Tom Waits playing with Kronos Quartet is just about the best in american music today.

Beautiful music, some of the best tenor arias from Italian opera, sung perfectly, and then South American music from heaven. I recommend this (hard to find) disc to all.

I haven't written a review for a product in an extremely long time here, but I felt that I needed to say something on this album.

I was looking for pieces of George Crumb to listen to and stumbled upon "Black Angels." I did not expect to hear what I did. First of all, I must say that the quartet is extremely talented in all matters; their renditions of the work of Crumb and Shostakovich are supremely beautiful (my favorites: "Allegro Molto" and "Allegretto" by Shostakovich.) The pieces from Crumb--"Black Angels: Thirteen Images from the Dark Land"--could not be more appropiately titled. It is at times gorgeous and yet terrifying, shocking and yet absorbing--but always haunting. (By the way, in case you did not know, Crumb's "Therenody I: Night of the Electric Insects", the first of all pieces heard on the album ... Read More
