Dennis Brain was the greatest horn player of the 20th century and this is the greatest collection of his recordings I've found yet. The famous 1953 recordings of the Mozart horn concertos conducted by Karajan are included. There are a plethora of other wonderful gems in this set.

The EMI website has the entire track list and notes posted online. Do yourself a favor and read those. They do a wonderful job of highlighting each recording. This is truly a unmatched collection of Brain's best recordings.

In his book "Evenings With Horowitz", the eminent piano professor David Dubal quotes someone by the name of James Hilton (an author, I think) who wrote: "If by some dispensation a man born deaf were to be given hearing for a single hour he might well spend the whole time with Horowitz. Indeed, when I listened to Horowitz for the first time, it was almost like that - as if I had never heard the piano before - as if the instrument itself had never known what it could do until Horowitz came along."

Listen to this CD and you will no doubt agree. As Dubal says elsewhere, Horowitz somehow unlocked the secrets of sonority on the piano. Listen to Earl Wild's or Alfred Brendel's or Jean-Yves Thibaudet's recordings of the Liszt/Wagner Liebestod. Then listen to Horowitz's - it's a revelation, ... Read More

Cheers to those with drive to attain "real" music student status. However, I just want to listen to music passages I have found enjoyable over the years. There is no pretense of this selection being a student workbook of classical music for the serious scholar - it is just an enjoyable alternative to that shared by those offensively loud vehicles near me at the stoplight.

Music : Masters of Classical Music (Box Set)
I think that this is really one of the best values you're going to find anywhere in the world of classical music, especially for beginners. You're getting 10 CDs, each filled almost to capacity, with the most famous works from the most famous composers in the history of classical music. The sound quality is excellent on every disc.

While I would have made some replacements on the list of who was included, I feel that this collection is a must-buy for anyone interested in exploring classical music in depth. Quality is high, quantity is high, you really can't go wrong.

In leiu of an organist, we opted to use this CD for our daughter's wedding. I loved the song selection and the order of the songs worked perfect for the prelude, and postlude. I was so excited with I heard the songs I couldn't wait to use this at the wedding. It was perfect!

*I had purchased an abundance of the "Favorites" collection some were better than others. This one was not too bad compared to the others, but not the best one.
I was kind of perturbed when some same tracks on this CD were on another CD, and visa versa.
