Ok, this album is not for everyone, it is only for those who truly appreciate music and know how to reconize truly good sounding music. It isn't exactly what I would cruise down the road with the windows down and turned up loud - but it is superb for relaxing at home, chilling, working and not wanting some loud screaming of lyrics or talking in general to interrupt your workflow (if you are like me and don't like dead silence when working, this is PERFECT!) As a matter-in-fact I have it playing right now as I type this.....give it a shot, but only if you are a true music lover!

I finally got the Cd after wearing out two tapes. There are so many different artist on this, it's amazing. It is almost worth it just to hear Michael Bolton do opera! I don't like the man but he was good. Get this, it is worth a listen.

The Confidence Man is "loosely" based on Herman Melville's novel of the same name. According to the lyricist, Ray Errol Fox, the story begins on April 1, 1861. Passengers board a Mississippi River steamer bound for New Orleans. Among the passengers is the title character who over the course of the journey will disguise himself variously (e.g. Healman, Whiteman, Black Guinea, Helpman, etc.). The story explores trust or confidence in a satirical fashion (ironically aboard the steamer "Fidele"). What is a con to do when he is bested at his own game?

Though I do have one complaint (mentioned below), I thoroughly enjoyed The Confidence Man. The music is wonderfully authentic to an earlier time and a specific place. The music alone conjures visions of a Mississippi steamer floating through St. ... Read More

This album has collected most of Celin's greatest hits and played them to the piano with a pleasant suggestion of the stringed instruments in the background. It would be more complete if Where Does My Heart Beat Now and I Drove All Night were also included. Nevertheless, the orchestration is awesome, and the music overall is very soothing. The tempo is slow and benefitial for studying or just relaxing. The tracks just melt into each other, and you find yourself filling the lyrics to the various songs as they play. This Cd is especially good if you are an enthusiastic fan of Celin Dion and classical music because the two concepts are blended in this album. And even if you are neither, the music is quite calming anyways.

Oh, expensive. So expensive. So very, very expensive. Expensive! (I'm a struggling artist/student) So I bought this CD used in "like new" condition, and I am exceedingly pleased with my purchase (I made a good choice, hooray!). You will find a wide variety of musical styles from the incredible Jim Steinman (I like some bombast and pretension in my music, okay?) in this disc, and the musicianship is superb. JS really doesn't get the credit due to him. It seems to me that a lot of his work is written off as too over the top for this day and age, but in my opinion these detractors are just trying to write off Bonnie Tyler, Meat Loaf, or Celine Dion (I love one of the artists, and another is okay, but I'm just not into their adult/contemporary/easy-listening thing).
The singing is beautiful and the fact that it ... Read More
