Oh My. Was A big fan of his during the 70's and am now replacing my old cassettes with cds. Growing up in the West (AZ) he was well known. Now living in the Southeast I find myself exposing many new people to his music. Highly recommend any and all of his music.

This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.

This CD is a must for JJW fans, but virtually anyone will enjoy it. In his trademark laid-back style, Jerry Jeff presents many of the old standards, but somehow manages to make each one refreshing. A few of the lyrics have been "tweaked", making them a little more Western, a litle more bawdy and a lot more fun. But even the songs delivered straight sound fresh. All in all, listening to this project feels like being invited into JJW's living room on a holiday evening to be entertained by him and some very talented (and fun) friends.

A legendary '70s troubadour/country clown/stoner god/party animal, Jerry Jeff was an icon 'way back when, and he's still kicking and touring and making great records today. His independently-owned Tried and True label has had a great track record so far; Walker's new material is at least as good as any of his classic "outlaw" material on MCA... This 12-song sampler isn't quite as comprehensive as 2001's somewhat similar "Ultimate Collection," but it's a fine set in and of itself. Includes a surprising number of Jerry Jeff's raunchier cult classics, and will certainly do in a pinch. This record has a live feel to it, and it is full of great songs that don't seem to get old. According to legend, Jerry Jeff went down to Austin in the very early seventies to check out the scene at the Armadillo World Headquarters and fell in love with the Austin music scene and the Hill Country. He joined and became the the central figure in the now legendary music that came out of Austin in the early and mid seventies. He also put out a couple of fine records before joining the Austin scene: "Drifting Way of Life" and "Bein' Free". Highly recommended if you like Jerry Jeff and don't already have them. BTW: Michael Murphey's "Geronimo's Cadillac" and "Cosmic Cowboy Souvenir" are finally available on CD as an Australian import here on Amazon.

This is a great listen. Bojangles and My Old Man are favorites. I saw Jerry Jeff some yrs back at a small club. Just him and 3 guitars. Near the end of the show, I asked Jerry Jeff for "My Old Man" he put down his Ovation Electric and picked up his D28 saying "This is the right one that one." He started singing the song and I could see it was a very personal song for him. He filled to the brim of his hat with raw soul and got through it. After the last note he set the guitar back on it's stand dipped his head and said "Train Time" and he was gone. One of the greatest performances I ever saw.

If you, like I do, every once in a while need to hear about whiskey bars, fly-by-night hotels, pool playing hustlers, sad-eyed gals, flossies, no-name susies, broken-down cowboys, low down hotels nighttimes smells, guys saying what the hell at the last chance motel you have come to the right address. Listen on.

...proud to be the 1st review on this (to borrow another folk'ish phrase) "diamond in the rough" in, what, 7 years...?? I've always been fondest of this Jerry Jeff album -- especially the way it really does weave in and out like the trials of the road and drifin', ramblin (scramblin) 'n all the high's 'n'lows out there.... it does show, as another reviewer noted prior, the young jerry jeff on the road before the whole 'Texas' thing he's become more immersed in... it's the late 60's 'n here's just a kid from, what, New York, who's "hitchhiked about a hundred-thousand miles" 'n "had good luck, lived in different styles" and it's a necessary book-end (not to mention one've my 3 favorite Walker albums) if you wanna know more about or collect more on this well-rounded legend...
