Had not seen the show, but love a good musical. i could not get into this one.

Highly enjoyable version, although my personal preference is the Canadian version with Donny Osmond. The narrator in the London version is top notch as are the other cast members - well worth the money for all this listening pleasure

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes. As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN... But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's "Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...

If you could, just for a moment, return to the days when fairy godmothers were real, when you really could turn four white mice into four white horses - then just buy this CD for a few smiles, a lot of memories, and the original Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes. This CD took me way back to when magic was there, and now it makes me wonder, everytime I listen to it, if maybe the magic isn't still there? Maybe I should just call on my fairy godmother..... A true heirloom of a CD.

Greetings, I am one of the few who actually got to see "The First" -- a musical about Jackie Robinson. I do not have this CD but wish it had the title song from "The First" ...don't think it exists anywhere. I actually still remember some dialogue/lyrics from it and would like to hear it/read the words again. I also would like to know if any version or scenes from the play are available to do in a school. Anybody? Have a nice day!

What a collection of unsung Sondheim tunes. At times I wondered why these songs had been dropped from shows. Well sung by the various artists.

This CD is a treat loaded with surprises. Program notes are well written and entertaining (by a Shakespearean expert?). Hear "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" in it's entirety, enjoy Hamlet retold in a jazzy piece that even features a little scat singing, and revel in the creative arrangement of "Tonight" (it features a bit of dialogue, some musical borrowings from Prokofiev, and more to create a multi-dimensional experience of this piece.) I highly recommend this diverse, interesting, stimulating and intriguing CD. I really liked it, in case you haven't guessed. PS: The singing is good, too.

I'll agree this is nothing new, but this CD has great music on it. Very exciting and fresh, to go with this old story. The vocalists are great, the lyrics fit right into the story, and the orchestrations are wonderful. After listening to this CD I never want to see "A Christmas Carol" any other way. I strongly suggest this CD for everyone. It is a family show, as well as being a wonderful one for new and old listeners. This CD tells the entire story, there no need to read a synopsis because its all here. Favorite Song: "Dancing On Your Grave"
