This set was the most intense set of music I had ever listened to. The range of emotions that swept me while I listened to it was amazing. The crescendos were absolutely stunning. THis music is so rich. It was worth the money. Totally!

Part of the reason of The Lord of the Rings movies success is due to the awesome score that Howard Shore has so magnificently created. A trully brilliant piece of art that pulls you into the world of Middle-Earth and keeps you there. You seldom hear genius any more, but this soundtrack is a stunning reminder that it still exists. The music raises its tempo gracefully with its drums without falling. It uses the choir and Celtic influences brilliantly. Each track fits the next like a hand in the glove. Okay, I was already determined to love this album when I found out that Renee Fleming stars in three of it's pieces. But Howard Shore truly does provide a gorgeous presentation of his musical talents. Keeping in mind that this is a movie track, and therefore, there is a lot of "incidental" music in this album. It's not always riveting without the action of the movie to complete the story. But that is a challenge every composer of film music faces. Flemming is flawless, providing a straight-tone (no vibrato), eerie, airy sound in her performances to emphasize the other-worldly influence of this music. One wonders how authentic her "elfin" would be, but since her vocals are nearly indistinguishable from the orchestra, the accent could hardly be determined anyhow. The ... Read More

This orchestral score accompanies Peter Jackson's second serving of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic Lord of The Rings trilogy, The Two Towers. To many, including me, The Two Towers was the most interesting book and the most enthralling film, and the music has something to do with how tense and action packed the movie was. This is where hell breaks loose, and the music indicates as much. Most of the songs sway between quiet, mysterious movements and loud, dark, sweeping, full orchestra explosions at the drop of a feather. This keeps the score tense, progressive, and effective. On one hand, the listener will hear many versions of the main Lord of The Rings themes that they have already been spoon fed hundreds of times before and probably won't need to hear again. The music of "Lord of the Rings" reminds me so much of Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle. Well, the entire story of LOTR reminds me of The Ring Cycle. But apples and oranges aside, the musical themes (or leitmotifs) here are dazzling. From the "Orc Industry" to "The Fellowship" to "Hobbiton", they all so diverse and so distinctive. I love every minute of it (except for some overly bombastic parts that are very irritating to the ears). Kudos to Howard Shore, and to Peter Jackson who hired Howard Shore.

This 3 CD collection contains all the standard soundtracks for Lord of the Rings. So Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King are all here, one disc each, in a box designed by Alan Lee I believe. In addition to all 3 single-disc soundtracks, you get all the 'collector' cards (sometime when a soundtrack CD for a major film event is released there are 5 or 6 different character covers you get to choose from). This release is recommended for someone who does not own any Lord of the Rings soundtrack, as you get all three in one shot for a pretty good price, or for the casual listener. For REAL fans of either Lord of the Rings or film score, I suggest looking into the the Complete Recordings as it is essentially listening to the film.

I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

The nice things about this is that the music is all instrumental. So it's nice to just hear the music without anyone singing. I have all these from the original movie soundtracks, but this is different enough. If you are a fan of the music from Burton's music then this CD is a must have.
