I have only one complaint, and it might be a little nontraditional: the first movement of the symphony...I'd swear I've heard it in a war movie or the like...some sad scene on a battlefield strewn with soldiers' bodies and drifting smoke. For some reason, thinking this takes something away from the piece for me. Stupid, I know. But once you're past the first movement, it is stunning. And of course, w/o the Hollywood images rolling through my head, the first movement would be stunning as well.

It's funny how over the years you find something special. This is one of those special music moments. I do think that every person will have one track they like better than others but for me there is one track that just chills you to the bone. It's worth the money for the whole CD just for the one track. I just wish this was a 7.1 surround sound recording. I guess one day it will be :o)

Very soothing and relaxing. I bought this tape specifically for the recording of O Magnum Mysterium after hearing the song at a concert, but the other music is fantastic too. Instant relaxation.

"Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" is one of the most beautiful music pieces ever composed! If you can listen carefully, and let yourself be swept up by the piece, you will be very effected! While listening to the music, my heart started racing at one point, and I felt flushed from the reaction to the music! Beautiful!

I heard some sample tracks on iTunes and they really had an effect on me.. had to have the rest of the album. The singing is awe-inspiring. The Sixteen is an incredible.. "singing troupe"? Whatever you call them they're great. The one thing I noticed in the recording was a very slight humming that's not audible at normal volumes. But if you really crank it, to like 11, it becomes irritatingly noticeable. I don't think it was my stereo equipment but anything's possible. Very good CD though. Recommended.

Being a fan of classic music as well of a fan of electronic music, this album blew me away, I often play this CD when I want to create a relaxed atmosphere and I know for a fact that 4 friends of mine have bought the CD after listening to it here with me. Xerxes and Cavalleria rusticana are sublime achievements of production. Mr. Orbit, "Hello waveforms" is great but you should take time to produce a second CD of pieces in a modern style. PS: It's the perfect gift for classic music lovers, you can't expect them to have it and they'll love it for sure

Although the CD tends toward the somber, there is a majestic quality to Gorecki's music. The harmonies in Broad Waters are especially stunning.

I don't know about the BEST ever, but it IS a very good choral sampler. The range of period music, styles, and choruses is a great sampling of choral music, ranging from Gregorian to McCartney; the bombastic to the serene; the familiar to the lesser known. The quality of the recordings (from different times and places) is very good. It would make a good intro to choral music CD, or just a very enjoyable collection of choral works by a wide range of composers. It does, indeed, demonstrate what the human voice in harmony with others is capable of.
